Frustration gnawed at Cassandra like a persistent ache. Varian, the alchemist from Corona, had disappeared into the Royal Library hours ago, consumed by the ancient texts. She couldn't shake the feeling of unease that coiled in her gut. He was brilliant, yes, but venturing into the unknown with nothing but cryptic scrolls and bubbling concoctions was a recipe for disaster.
She needed to act. She stormed through the castle corridors, her steps echoing in the oppressive silence. Finally, she reached the large oak doors leading to the royal chambers. Taking a deep breath, she pushed them open, announcing her presence without waiting for a response.
Queen Elsa stood by the window, her back to Cassandra, her gaze fixed on the distant horizon. The glow of the rising sun painted the room in soft hues of orange and pink. Anna, ever the optimist, was humming a cheerful tune as she arranged a vase of fresh flowers.
"Your Majesty," Cassandra said, her voice firm. "I need to speak with you about Varian."
Elsa turned, her expression unreadable. "What about him, Captain?"
"He's locked himself away in the library," Cassandra explained, her voice laced with concern. "He's found something about the Moonstone, I'm sure of it. But he can't do this alone. It's dangerous."
Anna, sensing the tension, stopped humming and turned towards them. "Dangerous? What's going on?"
"Varian believes he's found a way to stop the Moonstone's influence," Cassandra revealed, her gaze flickering between the two sisters.
Elsa's brow furrowed. "And you think he can do it on his own?"
"No, Your Majesty," Cassandra admitted, frustration creeping into her voice. "He's brilliant, but this... this is bigger than him. He needs help."
Elsa studied Cassandra for a long moment, her icy blue eyes unwavering. "He won't be alone, Captain," she finally said, her voice firm.
Relief washed over Cassandra, momentary. "But who..." she began.
"Captain Emma will be accompanying him," Elsa interrupted, gesturing towards the doorway where a stoic Emma stood, her arms crossed. "She's more than capable, and I trust her to keep him out of trouble." A faint smile played on Elsa's lips, a hint of amusement at the prospect of their unlikely partnership.
Cassandra's relief evaporated, replaced by a spark of annoyance, then a grudging acceptance. Varian and Emma on a quest together? It was a recipe for disaster, but perhaps, just perhaps, it was the only chance they had.
"Very well, Your Majesty," she conceded, her voice tight. "But if anything happens to him..."
"We'll deal with it then, Captain," Elsa cut her off, her voice leaving no room for argument. "Now, Captain, when Varian emerges from his research, tell him and Emma to report to my chambers. We need to discuss their next steps."
With a curt nod, Cassandra knew she had pushed her luck far enough. The weight of the kingdom's fate pressed down on her shoulders. Varian and Emma, an unlikely team on a perilous quest. She could only hope that their combined skills, and perhaps a grudging respect for each other, would be enough to break the Moonstone's hold and restore light to Arendelle.

Disappointment gnawed at Cassandra as she emerged from the Queen's chambers. Elsa's decision was final – Emma would be accompanying Varian on his quest. While a part of her acknowledged the logic behind it, another part bristled at the thought of the two of them working together.
She found Emma in the training courtyard, her usual stoic expression etched on her face, a practice sword held loosely in her hand. The morning sun glinted off the polished metal, mirroring the glint of determination in Emma's eyes.
