Jason's pov

I just finished up the last leg of my wide open tour and just heard them announce the DVD coming out so I'd say music wise, this year's been great. Finding that special someone..... Eh not so much. I order another round of whiskey and sit at the bar with nothing to do. I can't go home, there ain't nothing' for me to do.

Miranda's pov

I take my sweaty runner's jacket off. I have a meet next week. I'm going for the gold this year. My dream is to make it to the Olympics. It's hard though with no one cheering you on. I head down to the bar hoping to forget this long exhausting day.

Jason's pov

A girl sits beside me and orders a guiness. Very rare to see a girl her size order one of those. I watch her out of the corner of my eye and order one too. She looks exhausted. I wonder what she's been up to. She goes to the bathroom so I turn my attention to the TV. Complete and utter boredom. A guy sits in her seat. I'm about to say that seat is taken when he slips something in her drink then leaves. "What did he just do?" I mumble. He disappears into the crowd before I can say anything. She comes back and is about to drink it.

"I wouldn't drink that if I were you." The guy sitting next to me says. I look up at him surprised. "Why not?" I ask. "Some guy rufeed it." He says. "Oh wow, thanks!" I gasp, pushing it away. "No problem, what's your name?" He asks. "Miranda." I say, turning around, leaning my back against the bar. "And you?" I ask. "Jason." He says. Jason? Now where have I heard that name before? "What's your last name? I swear I know you from somewhere. I just can't remember where." I say. He smiles. "That'd probably be on CMT or something. I'm a country music singer." He says. I stand up. "Oh yeah, my mom listens to you all the time!" I gasp. "Well, I reckon she loves country. What about you ma'am?" He asks. "I don't listen to music much. Too much training to do anything fun." I mutter. "What ya trainin' for?" He asks. I smile proudly. "The Olympics. I'm going to try and be the gold medalist in running." I reply. His eyes go wide. "Really?! You're such a small little thing." He gapes, staring at me. "The smaller the faster." I say. He finishes off his drink. "Well, it was nice talking' with ya. Give country music a listen, ya might like it." He says, paying the bartender and walking out.

Jason's pov

I'll have to keep my eye out next Olympics. I sure want to see how a tiny girl like her can run fast enough to be in the Olympics. Now what to do? I still don't want to go home. It's an empty house. I guess I could go fishing, keep myself busy for an hour or two. I'm about to call Luke and see if he wants to go with me when I can't find my phone. I must've left it at the bar. I walk back and grab it. That's when I spot the jerk who tried to rufee that girl. He's got her by the shoulders and she's unconscious! They must've succeeded! I can't just let this happen. I walk up behind him and withdraw my pistol. I rest the barrel on the back of his neck and say, "let the girl go." He didn't know I was even behind him. "I've got a fully loaded pistol and I know how to use it. So why don't ya go back to the city where you can have all the fun ya want but leave our country girls alone." I say, angrily. He let's go of her and she hits her head on a table nearby only ticking me off more. "Now get outta here. Ain't got no time for no city slickers." I growl. He runs out and I reholster my pistol. "Damn that was awesome!!" A guy behind me shouts. "Unlike some folks I was raised right." I mutter, pulling her to her feet and setting her in a chair. I turn around and it's some 13 year old kid! "Whoa kid, how are you allowed in here?!" I gasp, surprised. "I'm sneaky." He says. Oh man, an underaged drinker. "I don't drink. I just come to see the bar fights." He says like he's reading my mind. "Ya shouldn't be. This place gets dangerous at night if ya haven't already figured that out. " I mutter. I push him towards the door. "Get on home, your parents are probably worried." I say. He pushes my hand away. "I don't have parents." He snaps and runs away. Oh dang poor kid! She's waking up. "What happened?" She mumbles, blinking. I tell her what I saw. "Thank God you forgot your phone." She says. "Yeah who knows what woulda happened!" I grumble. She nods. "That's why I came here. I love the nice guy cowboy types. Ya know the ones who won't let folks get away with things." She says. I smile. Like me. "Kinda like you." She whispers, reading my mind. "Yep. I hate city boys actin' like country boys. A good ol boy don't do that. It's a good way to get whooped down here." I reply. She grabs her purse. "Well I better get home." She says. "Thanks again for rescuing me.... Again." She says and laughs. "No problem." I say, waving and walking to my truck. She gets in hers and I follow her without her knowing. I wanna make sure she gets home safe and a small part of me wants to know where she lives.
