A shiver ran down her spine in the pulsing depth of a foreign and mournful dominion. A fleeting feeling of an untouchable kiss from someone she knew before and now miss, wash over. Being alive in this unexplainable moment, where two dimensions collide, she senses a familiar sensation of lingering souls weeping in the distance.
They meant her no harm or scare her away. They are just letting her know that they exist in this insufferable realm each day.
When more awareness dawns, her brain finally discerns the unfamiliar surroundings. The way the air left a sour taste on her lips or the way she was floating rather than holding a firm foot on the ground. Her body was no longer draped in dirty garments but in a sheer white cloth emitting luminescence. Her long hair caressed her back and flew in the air as if gravity had long lost its hold on them. The little jewels she was wearing before the event, were missing.
Something warm dripped down her fingers and on inspection, she discovered the iron-rich crimson oozing from deep cuts entrenched profoundly in her wrists. Her head spun as reality pierced her throbbing cold heart and squeezed punishingly. She gulped and breathed raggedly, carrying no idea of what had happened to her or what the next moment would bring.
Her last memory painted the picture of a horrid witch after her life. She was bound and... sacrificed.
Immense fear grips her, fracturing the last hope encouraging her to stay calm. Her lips wobbled and teeth chattered, but no sound was produced.
It was the vacuum of this realm that fed on the agonized wails of lost souls. Their cries lose resonance before they can travel to the ears of God.
Gauri now examined her surroundings, which resembled an endless space filled with cerise miasma and humid vapours. It was rising from beneath and the depth was limitless. The base lost in throes of time. Her brows furrow in worry and her brain calculated the possibilities of escape.
A certain part of her wished for it to be a nightmare at the edge of a beautiful dream. She further hopes she has long died and is saved from the ramifications of someone else's greed.
As she grieved in loneliness, her surroundings turned warmer and suffocating, hindering her ability to breathe easily. The palpitations of her heart weakened some more and the flow of blood oozing from her wrists wasn't as heavy as before. She felt fatigued and frozen in time, waiting for the unknown to swallow her whole.
In the never-ending space far from life, she closed her eyes and prayed to the Goddess who had given her strength to fight. Angling her body in an unknown direction, she flows ahead, trying to get a clear view of this new dimension. As she soared further, saw multiple beings wondering just like her.
Animals and humans, both ventured aimlessly.
Gauri failed to comprehend if this realm was a cage to trap the souls forever, or a temporary station leading them to another destination.
