"I didn't see you wearing one," Kuroshio commented. "You like it? Why not give it a try at a glance?"

She nodded. "I like it."

She flashed him a radiant smile. Kuroshio felt something stir in his heart, though he didn't know what it was.

"I will wear it regularly from now on."

Kuroshio's eyebrows twitched, asking; "Even if someone else might give you a similar gift?"

"Even if someone else might give me a similar gift," she repeated with slightly narrowed eyes and a gentle smile.

"Today's lesson will be a bit serious."

The third period of the lesson, Chabashira-sensei entered while saying so.

"What do you mean, Sae-chan-sensei?"

Ike was still a disrespectful student. Chabashira-sensei didn't respond much to his attitude.

"It's the end of the month, so we're going to have a short test. Please pass these to the back."

She handed out the papers to the students in the front row. Eventually, the single-sheet test reached his desk. It contained questions in the five main subjects. With only a few questions per subject, it was short.

"Huh? I wasn't studying much, though. This is too sudden...!" a student cried.

"This test is just for future reference. It won't be reflected in your report cards. There is no risk involved, so don't worry. Of course, cheating is prohibited."

"Well, that's better..."

Kuroshio was laid back throughout the whole thing.

Although the students had clearly improved their attitude—without proper preparation—even the smart students wouldn't be satisfied with Chabashira-sensei's sudden announcement.

Before the exam fully started, Kuroshio looked over to Sudou, smiling jokingly. "You think you can handle this, Sudou?"

Sudou grunted. "Probably. All this time, I'm only trying to keep myself from sleeping rather than paying attention to the class."

Kuroshio cackled. "I've experienced that kind of thing too, man. Not now, though."

The test started soon after that.

Kuroshio quickly noticed that the questions were easy to answer. Too easy, in fact. They didn't match the curriculum of his year. Only the last third question was difficult to answer for the same reason, only reversed.

He didn't need much time to solve all of them besides the hard ones.

He wouldn't be as smart as Horikita or Yukimura in that matter, but he was confident that he could at least be in the top 10 to 5 out of 40 students in the class.

After they were all done, Matsushita turned to him. He could already guess what she might say.

He didn't always try to use Mind Reader Glimpse because it was too torturous, and although he "seemed" to be used to it, it was not something he wanted to experience too often.

"Don't you think Chabashira-sensei's phrasings is strange?"

"About how there could be other ways to be noted on the report card apart from general grades?" Kuroshio wryly smirked.

Though Kuroshio knew little about how normal schools operated, he could draw that conclusion from the students' reactions to Chabashira's first announcement. It seemed that under normal circumstances, this kind of test would be recorded on the report card.
