Summary: It seems like the UST Tigresses (Pretty much just Regina) are pretty good matchmakers.
The UAAP season has finally wrapped up, despite everyone's expectations of the UST Tigresses to fail to make it to the semi-finals— they proved them wrong by making it to the finals.
Cassie's tired, you know that. She's the playmaker of the team and is practically the most important part of her team. So when you watched the finals representing The Varsitarian, your heart broke the second she bursted into tears in Coach Kung-Fu’s arms.
The two of you met in Cassie's first year in UST. You were a curious second-year student that decided to join The Varsitarian to get out of your bubble for once. By some coincidence, you were always the assigned journalist for Cassie's games— not that you were complaining about it. You read the articles about her, and how she first came from DLSZ and now to UST. Watching her play was the highlight of your year.
It wasn't just you that noticed the coincidences— Cassie also noticed it. I mean, how could she not? You bring a huge giant Canon camera to her matches every time and later, she’ll see her face on the front cover of one of your articles. You were first introduced by Detdet, she was one of your friends that supported your journalism since you started, and has practically been your buddy since the two of you started in UST.
The two of you obviously clicked together like a puzzle. Somehow you solved each other's puzzle so quickly, like you were wired into each other. Cassie loved posing for your photos, and you loved writing her articles. Sometimes, Cassie would find herself searching you through the crowd of the vast arena, searching for that one camera covered with random stickers and your Varsitarian uniform. And when the two of your eyes meet, she relaxes and the game is like a breeze to her.
So when the final match between UST and NU finished, you watched as Cassie searched through the crowd of yellow and blue— and when her eyes landed on you, all she could do was wave. She couldn't potentially cause a scandal between the two of you, knowing how netizens liked to create rumors.
But the second she left the arena, she called you up. “Hi, san ka?” Cassie questioned, her voice was a bit sore from the yelling and crying she did.
“Hi Cass, nasa labas ako right now. Sa green entrance ako.” You reply.
There was a bit of murmur on Cassie's side of the line before she returned. “Sama ka samin samgyup, hinahanap ka ni Ate Det.”
You chuckle for a few seconds, “Ha? Cass, team bonding yun. Bawal ata ako.”
Before Cassie could get a word in, someone steals her phone away from her, “Hoy, bading! Pumunta ka dito o sasakalin kita bukas! Gusto ka ‘raw kasama netong bata.” Detdet yelled through the phone.
“Tangina mo naman Det, para kang may megaphone ‘lagi. Teka lang, papunta na ako.”
A yell comes from the other side before hushed whispers are heard. “Pumayag si ‘accla. Bigyan moko ng 150 mamaya ha, my services are not free.” Detdet whispers to someone, you could barely understand a word in since you were also running towards their bus.
“Ate, kakaiyak ko lang! Pulang pula mukha ko tas papapuntahin mo sya?!”
“Cute mo naman kahit kakaiyak lang ‘te, okay lang yan.”
You cough, alerting them that you were still listening. “Ano pinag-uusapan nyo? Wag nyo naman ako i-left out.”
Cassie grabs the phone from Detdet, slightly panicking. Aba, parang tanga naman tong si Ate! Akala ko ba na pinatay nya na.
“Sorry, kulet nila Xyza at Ate Det. Kanina pa kinukuha cellphone ko.” Cassie apologized, behind the phone, she was silently giving Detdet the middle finger, who was leaning on the side of the bus as she listened. She rolls her eyes at the hopeless girl, signaling her to wrap it up.
