The halls have never been more quieter than a spy sneaking through enemy territory. The lights only set a dim and treacherous mood where one path leads to a room waiting for anticipation.
The click of heels of the scuffed up boots are the only sound that echoes, treading with a pump of pride and greed.
There was only one plan set in motion, triggered by those worthy to compete against the toughest and deadliest people to fight in the trenches.
SIDD had two missions for what they served as: destroy the enemy and lead the underground world of high elite assassins to finish everyone off. Failing was one thing they did not accept under their rules.
And if you did, seeing the next day was likely theoretical to some extent.
By the time they reach the last remaining room facing the hallway, they enter with caution but remain stoic. Scanning through facial recognition and identification, the door clicks unlocking the tight air trapped in between.
With vigilance lurking through the dark shadows, a sole figure remains in the light. Nothing of the unusual look of seriousness and a hint of anger formed by the creases of the stern eyebrows that furrow together.
"Apologies that I arrived late, Commander. I had to make sure there weren't any wandering eyes near us." The voice gives an apologetic excuse to their manner as they shut the door behind them, the lock clicking in place.
"I'm pretty sure we're the only ones still here after hours, soldier."
"It's just a precaution that's all."
They sit themselves down in front of them. Wandering eyes and a curious mind sees that there's a folder and tablet within the commander's reach.
"Well I assume you know why I called you on such late notice. You're quite possibly the last person I'd ever assign for a mission with high bounty tied to it ."
The commander takes the folder's bottom corner, twisting it around to face it to his opposite counter. They open it and reveal the folder's hidden content stuffed with files. A list of profiles and dozens of photographs taken from recordings and peeking eyes within the public view.
"Might I say you have definitely gotten your hands dirty with the mess he made." The figure snarks back looking down and flipping through endless papers.
"That's not all." The commander takes the tablet, showing a video recorded from the eyes of his followers.
"It seems he has betrayed us and..because of her-she's a threat to us." He pauses the video, laying it back down on the desk. "She's one of CASTA's best field agents. I need someone for the job to bring her in."
"I know I'm not usually the first choice but tell me-" They close the file shut and stare into their malicious eyes. "Why not choose the Reaper?"
Cocking their head to the side, he lets out a small chuckle. "Don't worry. If she can avoid any more of my men getting swept under feet, then we'll simply unleash him. That's why I want her to see for herself."
"So she'll have to face him and have no choice but to fight, and we know SIDD loves to put up a good one."
"What about your back-stabbing little spawn?" They throw another question to the ring.
"Alive or dead." He responds. "I don't care about either option, just make sure he can't hide the key from us anymore."
"That's a lot of demands. But no worries-" They glance at the folder's contents one more time before closing the front cover. "I plan to take them down with great honor." The figure smiles to themselves. "I think it's time I sharpen this knife and show CASTA that we own this fucking world."
"I'm glad you didn't hesitate this time. Just make sure that the targets don't spoil anything. The plan needs to happen and fast."
"Speaking of, I did find more information within the walls here. It looks as if their accomplices are trying to get word here. Someone that works with tech."
A conniving grin forms from both corners of the commander's lips. "Wonderful work. Make sure you find out who they are and take them out immediately. I don't want more fucking rats crawling up in here."
"Yes, sir." They nod with obedience standing up to leave with the folder in their hands.
"Just one more thing before you go." The commander stops their tracks.
Turning around, a black box is picked up off the ground near the desk. Unusually stunned, the figure looks at the box pondering what lies inside. Eyes peer up to the commander for the question at hand.
"I was given on the occasion that you might find either one of the targets. But you'll need something to hunt them down."
Both hands reach for the sides as they prop it open up, idiosyncrasy itching in the back of their head. A pair of small silver hand guns shine beneath the dim lighting. They stand in awe, admiring the beauty of a weapon's model untouched and unused.
"They're not mine but they are her's." The commander says. " Fully equipped with amo.She used them when she was your age and fittingly I think this would be a great time to display that weapons score you made when you were recruited."
"Thank you sir, again." They shut the box down straight and take it in their possession.
"I'm counting on you and so is everyone, don't disappoint me please." The tone is much more than a hopeful thought but taken as a serious note for the figure's mind.
"Trust me. I'll do it."
"Remember, never surrender. Viel Gluck, Agent."
"Auf Wiedersehen."
The commander excuses them to finally leave the room and carry out the task at hand. The figure would now be in the hunt for them both. For desperate times call for desperate measures especially in a war within the underground.
But more importantly how two agents from rivaling sides soon come in between the blood covered feud. It was dangerous for them to stay together and more threatening that they would go against the odds of their respected organizations.
SIDD needed their plan to stay on track and without the key they'd be stuck fighting another side for too long.
A key that would wipe out the other side in a simple snap, taking one life or the other's. Or perhaps even both.
