The sprawling penthouse overlooking the city was typically bustling with energy and laughter, but lately, a tense silence had settled over it like an unwelcome fog. Reputation, once the most resilient and fierce of the group, had been retreating into herself. Her sharp, caustic remarks cut through the air, leaving her friends bewildered and hurt. Gone were the days when her dark yet captivating presence commanded respect and admiration; now, it was cloaked in an impenetrable cloud of anger and pain.

Lover sat in the living room, her pastel-colored notebook open in her lap. She wrote furiously, trying to channel her anxiety and confusion into lyrics. Beside her, Fearless strummed an acoustic guitar softly, her eyes occasionally darting toward the hallway where Reputation's room was. It had been days since Reputation had come out, and weeks since she'd been her usual self.

"I just don't get it," Fearless murmured, her fingers fumbling on the strings. "She was doing so well. What happened?"

Lover's pen paused, and she sighed deeply. "I don't know, Fearless. I just wish she'd talk to us. It's like she's built this wall around herself."

As they spoke, 1989 entered the room, her usual radiant smile dimmed with concern. "Hey, any news from Rep?"

Fearless shook her head. "Nothing. She barely even looks at us anymore. I tried to talk to her this morning, and she snapped at me for no reason. Told me to 'go fuck myself.'.. but I'm a minor,"

1989 frowned. "That's not like her at all. I mean, she can be intense, but she's not cruel. Not anymore, at least,"

The front door opened, and Speak Now walked in, her arms laden with groceries. "Maybe she just needs some space. Or maybe there's something going on that she doesn't want to talk about."

Lover's heart ached. "I'm worried about her. I'm afraid she might have... uh... relapsed."

The room fell silent. Each of them knew what Lover meant but hadn't dared to voice it.

Later that evening, Lover couldn't take it anymore. She stood outside Reputation's door, her hand hesitating on the handle. Taking a deep breath, she knocked softly.

"Rep? It's me, Lover. Can we talk?"

No response. Lover's heart pounded in her chest as she turned the handle and pushed the door open. The room was dark, the only light coming from the dim glow of a laptop screen. Reputation was curled up on her bed, her eyes red and puffy.

"Darling, please. Talk to me."

Reputation's eyes flickered with anger, but it was quickly replaced by a look of deep sadness. "What the fuck do you want, Lover?" Rep demanded, her voice rough and raspy.

Lover stepped inside, closing the door behind her. "I want to know what's going on with you. We're all worried sick. You've been acting so differently."

Reputation scoffed. "Oh, so now everyone cares?"

Lover's eyes filled with tears. "We never stopped caring. We love you."

Rep looked away from lover's gaze, back at her laptop. "Well, I don't, so get out." Rep said coldly, pointing at the door with a pen.

"You don't mean that." Lover said knowingly, approaching reputation.

"Stop. GET OUT." Rep said, attempting firmness, but it came out shaky.

"No," said lover. She sat on the edge of the bed.

"Reppy, I love you. I need you to tell me if something's wrong," said lover, voice flooded with concern.
"I.. I- I'm fine," said rep hesitantly.

Lover scoffed, half laughing.

"No, you're not," said lover.

Reputation's façade began to crack, and she buried her face in her knees, curling into a ball. "I'm sorry, Lover. I'm so sorry.."

Lover's heart shattered. She rushed to Reputation's side, wrapping her arms around her. "What's wrong, darling? Why are you sorry?" Lover prodded gently.

Reputation bit her lip and looked at her hands.
"I.. uh... I started... Again," she spoke, looking into the distance of the now interesting carpet.

Lover embraced her harder. She looked down at rep, who was now curled up into lover. Lover took a glance of rep's arm, which was still covered up by her hoodie.
"Why didn't you tell us? We could have helped you."

Reputation sobbed against Lover's shoulder. "I- I didn't want to disappoint you. you- you believed in me so much and I just let you down,"

"You could never disappoint me, darling," Lover whispered. "I love you for who you are, not for being perfect. We all have our struggles, and you don't have to face yours alone. Ever. I'll always be here, no matter if we're across the world."

Reputation pulled back, her eyes searching Lover's. "Do you really mean that?"

Lover smiled through her tears. "Of course I do. You're the love of my life, Reppy.."

Rep's shoulders sagged with relief, and for the first time in weeks, a small, genuine smile appeared on her lips. "Thank you, lov. I don't know what I'd do without you. I love you so much," rep said, cuddling into lover.

Lover kissed her forehead.
"I love you too, honey," she smiled, holding rep closer.

As the following weeks came, rep got better. She started opening up more, and started snapping less.
