CHAPTER 16
RevealedSEVERAL days after Kassidy had discovered what Tony had left for her, Peter had insisted on bringing her into the city for patrol. He said that some normalcy was exactly what she needed to get her mind off of things.
"Come on, I just want to take my girlfriend into the city for a while." he insisted, trying to pull Kassidy up from the bed. "Maybe we could get some lunch afterwards?"
Kassidy's cheeks reddened as he called her his girlfriend. Just yesterday, Peter had officially asked her. She had said yes, of course.
"Fine." she finally gave in. "But I'm choosing where we eat."
Peter jumped back and did an over-enthusiastic fist pump into the air. "Get dressed." he said, skipping towards the door. "You wanna fly us there?"
Kassidy rolled her eyes, pushing herself up from her bed. "Do I really have a choice?" she asked.
Peter paused in the doorway, sending a half-smile towards the girl. He shook his head. Kassidy let out a slightly giggle before telling him to get out and slamming the door with a flick of her wrist.
When Peter visited Kassie at the cabin, he tended to get there fast. When Kassidy had asked him about it, he had brought up the time in sophomore year when they had jumped from car to car in an attempt to get back to Washington before somebody blew something up.
She flew him every time after that.
Kassidy's new suit she had made in Happy's jet had been completely destroyed during the fight in London, so she was forced to wear the one that Tony had originally made for her. Not that she was complaining. Her first suit had the nostalgic and familiar feeling she loved, and she liked to think it connected her to Tony. Of course, she could choose to wear her nano-tech suit, but she liked to save it for special occasions.
After zipping up the vest of her suit, Kassidy held her mask in her hand and left her room. Peter must have gone to the bathroom to get changed, because he was already in his suit and talking to Morgan.
"I promise she'll be home safe and sound before you know it, alright?" he said, crouched down so that he could make eye contact with the girl. "Then you can have all the Kassie time you want."
A small smile creeped its way onto her face as Kassidy watched the two interact. When Morgan noticed her make her way into the room, she immediately left Peter and bounded over to Kassidy.
"Promise you won't be gone long?" she asked.
"Promise." Kassidy smiled, ruffling the girls hair. "And, I'll even throw a donut into that promise."
Morgan's face lit up at that, and she nodded her head eagerly before sticking out her pinky. Kassidy interlinked her own finger with Morgan's before kissing the other end of her hand.
