PEPPER had done as she promised and secured a lawyer for Peter and Kassidy. After their questioning, the duo had bid farewell to their friends before heading back to the Parker residence.
The next morning, Matt Murdock, a blind man who held a cane in one hand and a briefcase in the other, arrived. They sat around the table with the news on in the background. At the mention of Stark Industries, Kassidy's head snapped towards the screen. A photo of both Happy and Pepper appeared on the screen.
"What is happening?" Peter sighed, running a hand over his face.
Mr. Murdock, who had recently been on the phone, took his seat next to Kassidy and sent the pair of teens a smile.
"Well, I have some good news, kids." he said, resting his cane against the table. "I don't believe any of the charges against you are going to stick."
At those two sentences, Kassidy let out a breath she hadn't realized she had been holding. May and Happy both cheered and Peter grabbed ahold of Kassidy, pulling her into a hug.
"I knew it." May said in relief.
"Oh my god, Mr. Murdock. Thank you." Peter said as he released Kassidy. "That's amazing."
"Perfect." Happy smiled, shooting finger guns towards Kassidy.
"However."
All four heads turned to look at the lawyer.
"Mr. Hogan... the feds are actively investigating that missing technology." Matt explained, causing Happy's eyebrows to furrow in concern. "I understand your loyalty to Mr. Stark and his legacy, but if you were involved-,"
"If I was involved?" Happy asked in surprise.
"I advise securing a lawyer."
Happy's eyes darted around the room and he began stammering, shaking his head at the lawyer. Kassidy sent the man a look that said please shut up, which did exactly that.
"You're gonna need a really good lawyer." Matt said once Happy had quieted down. The lawyer then turned back towards Kassidy and Peter grimly. "Kassidy, Peter... you may have dodged your legal troubles, but things will get much worse. There is still the court of public opinion."
Kassidy was seconds away from asking what he meant by that when Peter suddenly shoved her out of her chair and to the ground. The sound of shattering glass was heard not a millisecond later, and she looked up to see Peter with his hand opened towards Matt's.
Which was holding a brick.
Kassidy let out a sound of surprise, her chest heaving. "What the hell?" she gasped.
Outside, the girl could hear somebody calling out the word "murderers", along with a few compliments to Mysterio.
Peter stared at Matt in shock, his eyebrows furrowed. He slowly took the brick from the man's hand. "How did you just do that?" he asked.
