CHAPTER ONE: SUDDEN ENCOUNTERS
Isobel Richards wasn't usually downcast, except for when it came to finding the right models for her final uni project.
Majoring in fashion design had always been Isobel's dream and she was grateful to have her parents complete blessing. Both of them had always been supportive of their only daughter and while they weren't sure that it would be a sustainable career path, they knew she would find her way. She did when she was rejected at both of her dream universities in New York and London, so when she was finally accepted in Los Angeles, Isobel knew she couldn't miss this opportunity.
She had been living in LA for about three years now, of course she had met a lot of people, but none that seemed fitting to present her creations that she had worked so incredibly hard on for the past few months. That's why the usually hopeful and bright girl was currently sitting at a Starbucks, sipping on her second Matcha Latte of the day, scrolling through tons of contacts and pictures that friends had given her, in hopes of helping the girl out. None of these models stood out to Isobel and her really specific vision.
All of her papers were handed in, her dissertation was well-received and now all that was left to do was this major project that she had worked on for approximately three months already. Isobel and her classmates were given the task to not only design and handmake their pieces, something that they had to do from the beginning of their studies, but also work out a concept for it's marketing — from hiring models to creating the perfect storytelling around it. Isobel wanted everything to be perfect.
Right from the beginning, Isobel knew she had to do something big and possibly step out of her own comfort zone. While she barely received negative feedback, her professors had often told her that her designs resembled her own style a lot. It's good to have a significant style as a designer, so that people can associate it with a specific brand, but it made Isobel think.
Her own style consisted of minimalistic fashion with a dash of asian influences, a lot of basic pieces with colorful statement pieces here and there. She loved the look of oversized dress pants paired with tight-fitting tops, but an oversized blazer could also make a look. That's why she loved vintage shopping and using the same basics in different outfits. Fashion was not only an outlet and a way of expressing herself, but also a tool to make statements and that's what she was planning for her final project.
She sketched out a whole concept, went to dozens of places to find the perfect fabric and resources and wrote multiple pages on why she decided on the ideas she chose. All she was trying to do for the past eight weeks was finding the right people to fit her creations on to and take pictures of in them. She couldn't finish her pieces without the specific measurements of each model, so all Isobel could do was try to find the perfect models quickly.
Being a perfectionist didn't help the girl one bit.
The blonde let out a sigh, brushing a hand through her short hair that she still needed to get used to, seeing as her hair stylist had talked her into letting him chop off quite a bit a few days ago.
The golden ring on Isobel's middle finger was played with nervously as she read through another profile her friend Han had sent her, but she let out a breath when she read something that didn't fit her vision. Han and Isobel were studying together and due to both of them working on their final projects they couldn't really talk about specifics, that's why Isobel lost hope on finding the right people through her friends.
Han was one of her closest friends, having met on the first day of Isobel living in LA and they found out they were both majoring in fashion design coincidentally. The Korean boy was overly kind and since he already finished most of the project and found his models, he wanted to help out his best friend, having heard of her struggles when they were out for dinner with their friend group.
