I felt like i was cutting through the forest like a knife, the wind cutting past my ears until there was nothing but white noise.
Well, it would be white noise but i could hear so much else, as clearly as if i were standing still. The rushing of the water, the clean drop of the falls, even the splashing at the bottom.

Then the pounding of paws and i came back quickly. 'Flank left Kyle.' I mind linked him and heard him adjust quickly. 'One more lap. Keep up.' I link him and he howls but still as i take off he keeps up sticking to my left. In a matter of 10 minutes we round the entire territory and im sure we could do it faster but we do it and the exhilaration fills my chest like nothing else. Once we come round the pack house we slow up around the area where the stashed clothes was. I shifted mid stride and went for a pair of shorts, Kyle took a moment but then almost as quickly he shifted back.I smile and throw him a pair of shorts, he smiles and shakes his head.

"How long before i can shift like that?" Kyle asks as he pulls up the shorts and i sigh tugging on a shirt. "Not long, we'll practice enough so you can shift on the fly." I say as we walk toward the pack house. I could smell the food already and my stomach growled, Kyle laughs shaking his head. "I can smell it too, Goddess ive never felt so hungry." He says and i nod. "Yeah training and the running burns through a lot of the calories we have but then the shifting, the heat, everything about us burns up the rest." I say as we walk and he nods. "Its a fair enough price. i guess." Kyle says as we reach the house, sighing i nod. "Yeah, for this gift. It certainly is."I say and we walk up the steps into the house. The smell of the food got stronger as the door opened and i smile as i hear the gentle chaos inside. This feels like home.

Hours later

Uncle Jack and Ian were on watch duty tonight but i couldnt relax, something felt off.
Well, everything had felt perfect but the hour after Jack and Ian left for patrol there was a dark nagging feeling. I stood at the window watching the tree line, wondering what this feeling meant. Something was wrong but i couldn't put my finger on it. I kept a feel out for Uncle Jack and Ian, feeling the path i knew they were taking. Nothing felt wrong about it, the path was as normal as i remember it being not a couple hours ago. But right now even the air felt wrong.

I took a deep breath and pushed to feel the entire territory. The second i did my heart dropped, i turn and run out of my room, down the hall. I open Kyle's room and he looked up from his laptop pausing whatever show he was watching. "I need you up, get your mom and Hailee, make sure everyone else is awake and aware."I say and as quickly as i spoke he got up. "Are the kids in danger?" He asks as we rush down the stairs. "I dont know for sure, id rather have everyone on their toes just in case. I need to go out make sure Jack and Ian are aware."I said and he nods as we both run down the steps.

As we hit the porch Kyle hops over the fence and runs off left, I run straight forward toward the smaller path.
The overwhelming heat surges throughout my entire body and mid stride i throw myself forward and my clothes rip to shreds as i shift. 'Jack!' I yell through the mind link. 'Jedd? What's going on?' I heard and i feel them change course. 'Theres a dark feeling coming from the east side of the territory. I sent Kyle to Rebekah and Hailee.' I said and they began racing to me.

In a few minutes they were at my flanks racing toward the area with the darkest aura. When i felt the aura grow i slowed. 'Jack, this feels familiar.'I heard Ian say and i felt the memory of the pain from him. The darkness he remembers, the pain that darkness brought him, and the darkness i feel now, it was all the same. It made my heart sink. That pain, the one familiar to all the Saviors, was one they felt almost 18 years ago.
