October 2022

Having this second championship was great but something was missing, Max didn't feel complete with it. This feelings wasn't new, he already had it for a couple of months now, years even. Seeing all the happy couple in the paddock, the families in the grandstands, it was causing him pain inside.

And then in summer when he had seen one of his friends adopting a little boy with his wife, who unfortunately couldn't get pregnant, he first had came up with that thought. Having a little boy or girl would be amazing.

Also Max knew that he would never be able to have a child on his own as he was openly gay for quite over a year now. So there would never be a Mrs Verstappen by his side that could give him a child.

So why should he wait for a partner if he already could get a child now, Max thought on his flighty back home. Alone he was once again sitting in his private plane, feeling lonely as always, when he pulled out his phone.

The e-mail address of the institution was quickly open and he typed a message into the little box, taking a deep breath before sending it.

December 2022

The mail had been prominent in his mind for weeks but as they said it would be complicated because he was alone and always flying to different countries, Max slowly lost hope. It was a cold December Monday, when he, once again, received an e-mail from the woman he was in touch with.

Max sighed as he opened it on his phone, prepared for another refusal, another thing that made him not fitting for adopting a child. But his eyes widened as he saw the text and he immediately jumped up from the sofa, running through his sisters house where he was currently staying.

"Vicky, it's happening, it's really happening!" he shouted on his way to the kitchen where he had last seen his sister.

"What's happening?" Victoria laughed and turned around from washing some fruits, "Have you seen the Santa Claus outside or what's so exciting?"

Luka and Lio only chuckled at her remark and also Max had to smile before he nervously stepped from one foot to another as he held the phone out, showing the e-mail to his sister. Her jaw also dropped as she read it and he eyes widened.

"It really is true." she then whispered as she looked up, tears in her eyes, "You're gonna be a dad."

"I am." the Dutchman mumbled and only nodded his head, also close to his tears.

"Why are you crying mama, what is happening?" Luka asked, looking between the two adults.

"Uncle Maxi is going to be a father of a little girl." Victoria said as she turned towards her son, who was sitting on the countertop.

"Really? But he doesn't have a wife." the child returned, big question marks in his eyes.

"That's true buddy." Max smiled as he brushed his tears aside, taking his nephew into his arms and onto his hip, "But some kids don't have parents any more and they are all alone and looking for a family, a mom or a dad."

"And you're gonna be that dad?" Luka beamed and it made Max smile.

"Yes, I'm gonna be a dad." the Dutchman breathed back, still overwhelmed of the situation.
