Monaco - summer break 2023
It was a hot summer day, most of the drivers that were based in Monaco were on holiday in Spain, Italy or France, enjoying their time off. Not Daniel, who had just got called back to work a few weeks ago, replacing De Vries at Alpha Tauri.
It was a lie to say that he had been ready. It all came so sudden that Daniel didn't really had time to prepare properly. Considering that his positions 13 and 16 in the two races before the summer break had been a miracle.
His physical conditions were horrible, too much fat, too less muscles. This was also the reason that Daniel had forced himself to the gym today. His trainer had his free day and he also had told the Aussie to relax for a bit.
But Daniel couldn't hear that, one look in the mirror was enough for him to feel bad, too fat, and way not at a level all the other drivers were. They could now lay on the beach, get some sun and eat big burgers or a pizza.
Meanwhile Daniel was disgusted by his own body, as he had also read some articles about him where people said that he wasn't ready to be a driver again, or that he had eaten too much while being 'just' the third driver.
Replaying these thought in his mind, Daniel kicked the door of the gym open. It was a shared place for some of the drivers, their families and some other athletes that were living in Monaco. But as it was the summer break, nobody was here.
Good for him, the Aussie thought as he looked around before deciding to do a litte warm up on the treadmill. He put his phone next to the door on the bench, together with his water bottle before he started some music.
As nobody was here he decided against headphones and just connected his phone to the speakers of the gym. As soon as the sound echoed through the room, Daniel could lay a smile on his face, feeling ready for today's workout.
The summer temperatures though made his joy die as soon as he started jogging. Quickly the Aussie pulled his shirt over his head, hanging it over the treadmill next to him. Luckily there wasn't any mirror close so he didn't had to look at his disgusting fat body, he thought.
The ten minutes went quickly by and Daniel did already his walk to calm down, as suddenly the door got opened. As the treadmill stopped at exactly that moment, the Aussie turned around, frozen right on spot as he saw Max Verstappen walking in, looking at least as surprised.
"Oh hey, didn't know anyone would be here." the Dutch driver brushed it off, quickly smiling before he turned to the bench where he put his things down.
Quickly, as soon as he had regained his self control again, Daniel grabbed his shirt fro the other treadmill, pulling it over his body.
He was ashamed that Max would see him like that, that he had seen him like that. Daniel was embarrassed and scared that the other driver would also drop a comment about his physical condition that clearly was far behind the others.
The Aussie could see it, as Max only wore a tank top that proudly presented the Dutchman's thick shoulder muscles and his trained biceps.
"H... Hi." Daniel returned as he jumped off the treadmill, sounding more like a question.
Max looked up from his phone, also surprised as the answer came three minutes after his own words, pretty unnormal.
"Yeah hi." the Dutchman chuckled, shortly looking over Daniel's body before he looked into his eyes again, "Why are you here, wasn't Monday your rest day?"
The Australian driver exhaled some air as he was scared Max would say something about his body, but he calmed down as it was just the normal gym talk they always had when their trainers were here.
