CORIOLANUS SNOW STEPPED FOOT INTO DISTRICT 4 FOR THE FIRST TIME IN A WHILE. It reeks of Pearl, and he wonders why she likes this place so much.
The Capitol city is nothing but riches and perfection. The districts are full of so much nature and he can already feel the bugs nipping at his ears.
There is already so much water in view, which reminds him of how he especially requested more water in last year's arena. It was for Pearl, of course.
It was all for Pearl.
Pearl played the games beautifully, but he set her up for victory. He made Lucy Gray win once, why not do it again with his real love?
Pearl repays him by trying to kill him and leaving the Capitol. Coriolanus feels weak not being in control of her and of his wants. He wants Pearl by his side, and if she were she would be listening to his every demand.
He wanted to feel her again, to find the taste of her lips. Coriolanus walks around in full confidence, not letting his aura fall even at the slightest.
People gasped at the sight of him, but why are they so surprised? Of course Coriolanus would come to Pearl's district to look for her again. It's been longer since her disappearance now, but she is out there somewhere.
Coriolanus has already passed by many houses, but he enters a small meadow that lies just before a river bend. It looks like somewhere he has seen before in another district.
Where does he look from here? All Coriolanus knows is that he wants to be at the Capitol right now.
"Are you, are you, coming to the tree?"
Coriolanus's pulse stops, and every gear manufacturing him breaks. The world goes silent for a moment when he hears that voice in his head.
The angelic voice of a songbird. Coriolanus knows he must be imagining things, but that was her voice that he heard.
The wind whistles loudly, and in the distance Coriolanus spots a running figure. From the back, he can tell that it is Pearl by her figure and golden hair.
"Pearl!"
She looks back, but keeps running. Coriolanus begins to dash through the field, hating every second of it. He should not have to be chasing her.
He was nearing Pearl, and seeing her disobey him again sent him spiraling. He was in this position years ago, and never thought he would get back to that point again.
Pearl suddenly stops, and they are standing in front of each other. "My love," Coriolanus says.
He begins to feel the anger bubble up inside him again. "Pearl, are you insane? Trying to kill me and then running away?!"
Coriolanus grabs her wrist, but she doesn't flinch. "You are going to be punished."
She isn't speaking. "You are mine, do you understand that?"
