A month passed since Rose met her seven new friends, they considered her an official member of their posse. Dean Pelton wanted to try something new at Greendale, Pet Day, where students bring a pet to campus to relieve stress. Not only was it Pet Day, but Rose's 18th birthday, and the Valentine's Day dance was later in the week. Rose was a little sad she didn't bring a pet, because she didn't have one. But she got to pet them which made her feel a little better. That was about to change, her aunt Shayne brought a Great Pyrenees dog onto campus. Pelton walked to them.
"Oh Shayne, quit making me jealous, I should've got her a puppy, it's cute though. Who's a big fluffy boy!?"
"It's a female dog Craig. Did you get her anything?"
"Of course I did, who wouldn't get their niece something special for her 18th year on Earth?"
"Something that won't make tuition rise."
"Oh stop it!"
They walked in the library when Shayne stopped.
"Do you have her cake?"
"I thought you bought it!"
"Craig!"
Shirley walked out of the study room.
"Hey you're here, I already made her a cake, homemade double chocolate cake. And that's a friendly looking dog!"
"Shirley thank you, you're a lifesaver," Craig said.
"Craig could you watch the dog for a minute, I want it to be a surprise?"
"Sure."
Shayne and Shirley walked in the study room. Britta had one of her cats, Pierce had a senior English bulldog with him, none of the others seem to have pets.
"Shayne!" They said.
"Hey guys, I see you've started a party without me."
"You're just in time actually, we all arrived here approximately 8 minutes ago, 15 minutes is the appropriate time to be considered late," Abed said.
Shirley started putting candles on the cake.
"Are you ready Rosie?" She asked her.
Rose nodded smiling. They started singing as Shayne brought the dog in.
"Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Rosie, happy birthday to you!"
As Rose blew out her candles, the dog started sniffing her. She gasped.
"Happy birthday honey."
"Aww a cute doggy!" Annie said.
As Rose was petting and hugging her new dog, Shayne introduced her.
"This a Vanilla, she's a one year old Great Pyrenees, she was fostered by a coworker from the hospital where I retired. She has been trained to do her outside business, she's still teething a little but she's a sweet girl."
"Hi Vanilla," they said like an AA meeting.
They noticed Rose was crying. The women awwed for her.
"Do you love her?" Shayne asked.
She nodded.
"You can rename Vanilla if you want to."
Rose wrote on her board: "VANILLA!" She gave her aunt a big hug as a thank you. Shayne handed the leash over to Rose.
"She's yours for Pet Day."
Pelton walked back in with a wrapped gift.
"The Pet Day thing is a trail run, if no accidents happen, Greenade will be the first pet friendly college in Colorado, not counting fish and gerbils."
"So my Winston can run around?" Pierce asked.
"They have to be on leash, with their owners at all times. As long as they're trained to go out and on leash, the pet is pet friendly. For example, Vanilla, her breed is autism friendly so she is perfect for our birthday girl here."
At that, Pelton sat the gift on the table, unwrapped it, and out came a buckle bracelet, it was an ID bracelet for autism, it said: Rose/Autism/Non-verbal, and his contact info at the bottom. As soon as he put it on her left wrist, Shayne pulled him outside.
"That's a cute dog you got there kiddo," Jeff said.
He cut her a piece of cake, they heard Pelton and Shayne yelling outside.
"I'm the one actually taking care of her, my number should be on there, not yours!"
At that moment, Rose hugged her new dog.
