Rin was frozen, and a gun was pointing right at her. Chuck was about to use her as a threat. Rin, though, was no damsel, and her uncle taught her that.
With Chuck talking and pointing his gun towards Rin, she looked towards Daryl and Merle. They were trying to negotiate.
But negotiations weren't a thing in the apocalypse (at least negotiations that go right, which was rare), Rin, without thinking, took her opportunity and raised her knife and ran right to Chuck who wasn't looking, she stabbed him in the chest.
Chuck let out a scream of agony, accidentally pulling the trigger right in Merle's direction, making him grasp his mid stomach.
"Merle!" Daryl yelled as he wrapped an arm around him.
Rin saw and helped Daryl make their way out of the building, leaving Chuck alone, bleeding out along with his dead men.
Rin and Daryl slowly, but quickly made their escape from the walls of BrightWood. Merle is cussing and groaning every second of their escape, causing the three to slow their pace.
"Dammit, Merle, shut the hell up!" Daryl groaned.
Rin snickered as Merle made his comeback, "I'm in pain, little brotha, I have my rights!"
It wasn't long before Merle collapsed, Daryl had Rin back up to handle Merle's wound. Daryl lifted his shirt and saw Merle was bleeding out, and quick, it seemed that Merle had already lost so much blood that it shocked Daryl that Merle was still standing.
"Rin, I'm gonna go back and look for some medical shit and somethin' for stitches. Ya keep an eye on Merle, ya understand?"
Rin nodded, and Daryl went off on his search.
Rin looked over at Merle, who was holding onto his wound. Rin walked to Merle and sat down in front of him. He smiled weakly, "Hey girlie... Looks like I took a hit for ya."
"Hm," She chuckled, "Ya did, I think ya got it in yer vulnerable area though..."
"Why ya think that?"
Rin shook her head, "Yer bleeding too much, Uncle Merle, ya don't have much time left." Rin said, getting up.
Merle didn't know what she was on about, Daryl was quick when it came to emergencies like this. He shouldn't be long now. Though he was quite scared for Rin.
It wasn't long before Daryl came running back to where he left his daughter and brother. He was expecting Merle to cuss him out for being slow or something typical.
But that's not what he was greeted by. What Daryl saw once he arrived back was something he'd never expected from Rin. What he saw was sickeningly terrifying.
Rin was standing over Merle's now dead body. Her hands were bloody, and she had a few blood splattered on her cheek.
Rin was staring at Merle. She looked emotionless.
"Rin..."
She looked up, and she smiled at Daryl with an innocent smile, "Don't worry, he'll come back. I didn't hurt his brain."
"Rin, baby..." Daryl walked over to them, "Baby, why did ya -"
"He'd be dead anyway. He was shot in the vulnerable area, his lung probably." Rin said. She scared Daryl. It wasn't her aura. It wasn't the fact that she killed his brother. It was the lack of emotions she had in her eyes and her voice.
"Rin, please don't do this to him. He didn't want this baby."
The look Daryl had on his face made Rin a little upset, he just didn't understand that Merle was going to come back, they just had to wait it out and then they'd all be together again.
"Daddy... We'll all be together again. Ya just have to wait! Please! We just have to wait." Rin pleaded.
Daryl didn't know when Rin did this, it could have been a minute after he left or even the last minute, he didn't know, and it hurt him to see Rin like this, she was so convinced walkers were just like other people who lived.
They both didn't realize that Merle had gotten up, not until they heard a twig break, Rin turned around and smiled, and she slowly walked towards Walker Merle.
"Uncle Merle... Yer back."
Merle let out groans and turned around. Once he faced them, Daryl couldn't take it. A few tears fell down his face, his brother was a walker, and he was letting it happen.
He didn't expect Rin to slowly walk towards Walker Merle and lead him towards them, "Rin, what are ya doin'?"
"I'm takin' him with us." Rin smiled.
"Rin," Daryl spoke, "Rin, hun, we have to put him down. Please baby, we have to put him down."
Rin blocked him out as she kept leading Merle towards them.
That was it for Daryl, he couldn't let this go on any longer, he didn't care right now if this strained his relationship with Rin, he just didn't want Merle to be a walker.
Daryl pushed Merle back and kicked him to the ground, and pulled out his knife, stabbing him in the head repeatedly. Rin was trying to pull back Daryl, but she was already too late for that.
Rin was yelling and yelling and yelling as Daryl finally stopped and stared at Merle's dead body. He was now officially gone. Daryl lost his only brother, who cared for him and cared for Rin.
Daryl didn't know what to feel, Rin stopped yelling already but he still heard her yells in his head, he didn't know if he should feel anger for Rin killing Merle or if he should be sad or just frustrated at himself.
"Rin. Let's go." Daryl said as he stood up and walked ahead. He didn't care what direction he was going. He just wanted to leave the spot they were at before any walkers showed up.
Rin didn't say anything as she followed him. Though she did look back at Merle, they could have had Merle tamed somehow, and they could have gone on.
But that didn't happen.
In the five to ten minutes of walking, they came across Evie, who had escaped the community without anyone noticing, Rin was glad to see her as she was already missing her.
Daryl saw the chemistry between them, and all that chemistry happened for the short time they were in that community.
The anger and sadness and frustration had gone by the hour of walking. He knew Rin didn't know better, but he was questioning why he always made up excuses for her behavior.
This wasn't normal.
This couldn't be. Everyone who he came across had the same mindset as him and Merle, not Rin.
Not even Evie thought like her.
Daryl had to do something about this. Back then, it was different. They had Merle, but now. Enough was enough. Daryl isn't going to let this happen anymore.
