Beep. Beep. Beep.

The constant beeping is what I woke up to.

It was annoying, however not as annoying as the buzzing of the lights. They were too bright for me to open my eyes.

The burning sensation I had felt before was gone, and breathing felt easy once again.

I can finally think clearly now. However, the only thought that came to my mind was "Where am I?"

I go to raise my hand, and I feel something attached to my forearm. I ignore it and block the light from my eyes so they can be opened.

Ah, I'm in a hospital. Fun.

No one was in my room, so I look for a button to call the nurse. My mouth was dry, and my stomach rumbled its complaints. How long was I out?

I press the button once I find it, before closing my eyes again, now resting an arm over them for now. Why did hospitals have to be so bright?

It takes a few minutes for a nurse to arrive. At least, I think it's a nurse. I haven't opened my eyes yet. Instead I wave to show I'm awake.

"Hello. Would you like for me to dim the lights?" A low voice asks. I give a thumbs up. I don't want to even try speaking until my throat isn't dry.

I lowered my arm and see the lights dimming through my eyelids, so I open them once again. It takes a few blinks to readjust to the brightness, however it doesn't hurt as much as how it was before.

I try to sit up, before the nurse quickly comes over to assist me. The pain never returned so I didn't think I needed the help, but he still had me lean back against the bed, which had been adjusted to let me sit up a bit.

I open my mouth to speak, to ask a question, but stop myself. My mouth was still dry, so it was bound to hurt if I tried to speak.

Luckily, the nurse was ahead of me, and he gave me some water. He cautioned me about drinking too fast, so I was careful to only take sips despite the first one making me want nothing more than to gulp down the whole cup.

"You are very lucky, you know. That injury would have been fatal if Recovery Girl didn't get to you in time." The nurse tells me with a smile, as he starts checking my vitals.

Recovery Girl..? That name sounds familiar...

"The doctor will be in here shortly, along with a Pro hero and the Chief of Police, so be prepared to answer a few questions." The nurse warns me, before taking the clipboard he was writing on out the door. Left alone once again, I groan internally.

What does the Chief of Police want with me? And Pro Hero? Am I so disconnected from the world that I didn't realize there was a new Emergency service job?

I do nothing but wait and stare straight ahead. I suddenly become aware of my ankle being cuffed to the bed. I don't think I did anything illegal, did I? What happened to me? Why can't I remember-?

My thoughts were interrupted by a knock on the door.

"No need to knock, just come on in." I sigh, looking at the door as the doctor and two very familiar people step into the room.

I can't help but stare at one of them wide-eyed. He had a dog head for a head, which I don't remember ever being normal.

The other one I recognized was wearing all black, with a yellow utility belt and yellow goggles being the only actual color on him. Plus he had a grey scarf, all of which made him even more familiar to me. Where have I seen him before..?
