TW: Hostage situation, gun, and maybe a panic attack? (I don't think I know how it feels to have a panic attack. What is described is something that has happened to me, but I can't confirm it's a panic attack)
<:3O~

The day finally came for Nedzu and I to play chess. He had messaged me and told me he'd bring the chess set, so I was preparing for his arrival.

I hadn't made a mess during the past few days. In fact, I kept it nice and clean by cleaning every morning before I either drew or watched more Minecraft videos from long ago. I hadn't found one more recent than 900 years ago, so I'm assuming that's when Minecraft stopped being played, or at least stopped being played by content creators.

I did see if I could find the game on my phone, but it was buried under many other games and hadn't been updated since the last Minecraft video came out. Which likely means it did die. I was saddened by this, as it felt like I had loved the game a lot.

Though, seeing it was free did confuse me. After all, I remember having to pay for it. Maybe it was because of the decline in popularity that the price dropped so much? This saddened me even more, so I decided to check it out and see how buggy it became over the years.

Which is what all went on yesterday. I haven't picked my phone up since I woke up, using the tv as music while I did some extra cleaning. I had just finished putting the cleaning supplies away when I heard a knock at the door.

I froze, and went over to my phone to see if Nedzu had texted me since yesterday. Another knock. He did, just to let me know he was in the elevator and heading up to my apartment. I paused the music and went to the door, undoing two of the locks, before cracking it open to see who was outside. It was Nedzu and another person, who looked like a detective.

"Hello, Nedzu, give me one moment." I say, before closing the door to undo the last lock.

With that done I fully opened the door to let them inside, closing the door behind them and just locking the chain lock.

"Sorry, living alone is making me feel a bit paranoid." I explained after the familiar looking stranger raised an eyebrow.

"That is understandable. Humans are social creatures whether they know that or not. Being alone for long periods wouldn't be good." Nedzu nods, and starts setting up the chess board.

"Uh, do either of you two want some water? It's kind of the only drink I can offer." I ask, starting to back up to the kitchen to get my own glass. They both shake their heads, so I focused on filling my favorite cup (don't ask me why it's my favorite it's just the only one I've used since I got here) with water from the sink.

Nedzu is setting it up to where the white pieces are closest to the futon, while the black pieces are closest to the tv, which I walked over to turn off. The detective had looked at it before I did, so I explained I listen to music while I cleaned and had just finished when they arrived.

"So, what will be the topic of discussion during and after the match?" I asked, taking a seat on the floor as Nedzu sat on the futon.

"We have a few things we need to discuss, including the final steps of gaining your citizenship. Detective Tsukauchi is here for part of that. First though let's see how you do in this match." Nedzu explains, before making his first move.

He and I go back and forth for thirty minutes, making moves one after the other. This time he is able to check me before I could check him, but I was able to get out of the check just as quickly. While the board looked different, the ending was still the same. I had lost, and knocked over my king after he'd been put in a checkmate.

Nedzu's grin was wide, and the detective looked nervous in its presence.

Yes.. fear the Rat God, know his power.. I quickly shook my head. Wow, I was definitely serious about that whole thing.
