"Well that was a bit shit,"
"Matthias! Play nice Dylan did the best they could," Kristine swatted him. Diesel just rolled his eyes, it was still a sore point the fact that Dylan wasn't invited to Elton's funeral because they weren't his wife. His family refused to tell them a date or time, they didn't even let Dylan near his body or have a choice of clothes. Instead they were forced to stab a stone in the ground and say their goodbye to an empty patch of grass. Lyra Jade stood beside Dylan who was knelt against the cross, their head hung low as they held onto Elton's fedora for dear life. "It's not like they wanted this Matt, you know they wanted to honour him properly. Like they didn't get to with what's her name, Danny?" He nodded cutting his eyes to hers, he saw her dual nature as if it was on top of the mask she wore. He cupped her hand in his leading her away from the ending they all had a part in creating. The crowd dispersed leaving Dylan alone at the grave, Ellis was used to falling into step with his grandparents but today he decided to leave them. He wanted a chance to say goodbye, a real chance where he'd not be judged for mourning the death of a criminal his grandfather couldn't stand. He stepped forward standing a few steps back from Dylan who had only sat back when Lyra Jade left. He didn't speak nor he did move to touch them, all he did was offer his presence as they had so many times for him.
"Do you think God will have mercy?" Dylan asked.
"No, not on a man like Anza," Ellis kept his couch quiet, mimicking Dylan's hushed tone. "I do wish to believe he is somewhere frolicking with his loved once but I believe he will haunt us. I don't want to think that, but I do,"
"Can you hear him?"
"No matter how hard I try, no,"
"He left you everything," Dylan stood up. He came to their side both of them looking at the grave, "you're by all intents and purposes a rich man. Whether you chose to follow his lead or not is your choice, but I'm telling you I am following his lead,"
"Why the change?"
"I can't control how this ends but I want to follow who I was meant to. I was trained to take over the bar Raoul Dante, I was meant to do that and so much more but I ran away. It's a full cycle," they shrugged. "I want to be able to do so much more than what I've accomplished, if I take whats offered I'll be able to do that. I can help so many more people. Promise me, even if you don't join the lifestyle you'll let me use his resources,"
"They're yours,"
"No, they're yours. I will report to you, I won't tell you anything unless wanted but there will be written reports waiting for you to read. Once you're ready, even if you never are, the reports will be there waiting," they clamped a hand onto his shoulder. "I know you have River and Ro but don't forget us okay? Were the past yes, but the past always repeats itself. I am not somebody who's seen the light,"
"Hallelujah," he breathed.
"Hallelujah," they said to the grave.
"What does that say?" Ellis asked pointing to the writing down the side. It was a black cross holding all of Elton's jewellery apart from his rings, as a gift Franco and Diesel were getting them all resized so Dylan could wear them. Dylan smiled for the first time that day, it wasn't a smile Ellis would be glad to see again anytime soon.
"There's a lot of little quotes around it, his favourite quotes, I couldn't choose just one. Every time you're sad or miss him or even just need a little pick me up, come back to the grave and read a new quote. That's what he said to me the first time around, I think it's a good idea, and if anyone who doesn't know him stumbles on it they'll see shit like 'lived in a van with three other people and still can't drive'. I'll wait for you at the gate, say your goodbye then let's go drink. We have a lot to celebrate,"
"Oh? Like that?"
