Twenty-Three. Lover, You Should've Come Over

It had been a week since Jude proposed to Nevaeh. Which meant it was New Years Eve.

The topic of Vaeh moving to Spain was talked about a lot. Jude obviously needed to stay in Madrid for his career, but Nevaeh wanted to live in Barcelona with her friends. It was hard to come to an agreement on what would happen next.

For now, Nevaeh would reside in her vacation home and Jude would stay in Madrid, the couple bouncing between who's house to stay at. They were currently at Nevaeh's home and hosting a New Years party. She had invited a number of people, from Aubrie and Angela to Camavinga and Vini Jr. She didn't want the Madrid players there, but understood that Jude felt out of place when it was just the players on Barcelona.

There were lots of people at her home, and it overwhelmed her. What was she thinking inviting this many people?

"I'll be right back," she smiled and excused herself from the conversation she was having with Aubrie's girlfriend, Salma.

She walked into her bedroom, quietly shutting the door behind her. She sat on her bed, taking a deep sigh and pulling her phone out. She had seen a load of text messages, none of which she wanted to respond to. She set her phone down and sighed again, putting her arms on her knees and resting her head in her hands. She felt tears ready to pour, but she didn't know why she was upset. There was so much going on in her life, from the engagement to her career that was taking off like crazy.

The door opened. She didn't look up. The door closed again, and she felt someone sit next to her and wrap their arm around her. "Hey, baby, it's gonna be okay." Jude's voice.

That alone made her start bawling. He pulled her into his chest, hugging her while she cried. "I don't know what's wrong with me," she admitted, speaking in-between sobs.

"Is it the ring? Because if you wanna call the engagement off—"

"No, Jude, I just... I do want to marry you. I'd do it a hundred times over if I could, I just... I don't know what happened. I was perfectly fine and now I..." she managed to choke out. It broke Jude's heart to hear his girlfriend in such distress. He wanted to take away all of her problems, fix everything with a snap. But that was not possible.

She looked up at him, her sad doe eyes filled with tears. "I still want to marry you I just... Can we take things slower? I don't want to get married before I'm ready." He nodded immediately, understanding where she was coming from and agreeing with her. He didn't want to move fast, either, as this was his first real relationship with the first woman he truly loved.

"Okay. We can do that," he smiled down at her, wiping the tears off of her face. "I love you, Neve."

"I love you too, J."

Two minutes until the New Year. Everyone gathered into the main room, where the majority had drinks in hand. Jude stood by Nevaeh's side, his arm wrapped around her waist. He was proud to be her fiancé. He wanted nothing but a future with this girl, and now that it was happening, it all hit him really hard. He just needed this one thing to go well, just this once.

"Ten seconds!" Angela shouted, and the group of footballers and singers and actresses started counting down to one.

"5..." Jude turned to face Nevaeh.

"4..." She turned to face him.

"3..." She rested an arm on one shoulder and the other cupped his face.

"2..." His hands were on her waist.

"1..."

Fireworks exploded. The couple kissed each other passionately, proud of each other that they had come this far. Although it would be their second New Years together, it didn't make the moment feel any less special. Now she was engaged to him, soon to be married. Last time they were only a few months into their relationship.

"I love you," he spoke, his head touching hers.

"I love you more," she responded, smiling at her fiancé.

"Is that so?" he asked her. Their heads were no longer touching, but he still held onto her waist.

"Just a little bit."
