lancel stood at court, His first court since becoming a knight of the kingdom. Dressed in his upscale Lannister finery, hair done and freshly bathed to be as presentable as he could be sword at his hip. He was not use to all this but he had to learn to be. The king Joffrey sat on the throne listening to the foolish song a bard had written to mock him
When the bard finished Joffrey clapped with thick sarcasm, "A very good song. Humorous. I'm sure the tavern folk enjoyed it" he smirked,
"Please your grace I meant no-"
"No no. You wrote it. You shall seek the rewards of it. Have his fingers cut off one by one and then remove his tounge so no man will hear the song again" the king demanded and immediately the bard was dragged off by the guards,
"No! Please! Your grace! I beg you!" He screamed as he was dragged away,
Joffrey then demanded the Lady Y/n Baratheon, daughter of Stannis, and his own cousin take the floor. She was a beautiful girl in a Baratheon yellow dress she approached fearfully and kneeled, "Cousin. I'm sure you have heard tales of the horrors your father inflicted on Kings Landing at the battle of Blackwater"
"Yes your grace," she nodded,
"Then what do you say to the people of this city who suffered through your father's men? Should they not have justice for the pain inflicted, the homes destroyed and the lives taken?"
Lancel watched as Joffrey chastised the girl. The king had a point. The city had suffered when her father attacked. Lancel shifted uncomfortably on his feet.
"yes, your grace they should, and I'm sure in due time punishment will come to those responsible, my father... My father is a traitor he has abandoned the light of the seven and at his unholy crimes I know the seven will see a time to punish him" she explained the panic in her voice
"But don't you think those who lost lives, loves, and homes deserve a more... Immediate reward" the king smirked wickedly
He eyed the girl at the king's feet. She seemed uncomfortable being put on display to the king. He could only imagine the discomfort of the crowd watching on.
"I suggest she pay her father's debts. In blood! But so many have been lost for one little girl. I want every life lost on the battle counted and each one a cut soon her skin!" Joffery demanded
"Please your grace My father's crimes are not mine, as your father's aren't yours."
"You must be punished!" Joffery yelled
Lancel's mouth dropped open. What was the point of this display? Lancel understood the need for punishment, for justice, but this was an innocent cousin of the king, a girl who hadn't raised arms against the city. Lancel stood there, speechless. What could he say to prevent the madness of the king's decision? What could be done to make the king understand that a member of his family was not the enemy? Lancel swallowed and stepped forward towards the king. "Your Grace," he said, his voice wavering. "Lady Baratheon bears no guilt in this matter, Your Grace." He stared at the king, his face pleading. "To punish her for her father's actions only perpetuates the cycle of violence and injustice." Lancel's knuckles were white as he gripped the handle of his sword. His words were bold, and he could see the king's irritation at them. His palms were sweating, and his heart beat furiously in his chest. He knew he was risking his life in standing up to the king.
"you fought at my side in the battle of Blackwater did you no ser lancel?" The king asked
Y/n looked up to lancel her eyes pleading with him as the only one who wanted to help her,
"Yes Your Grace. Aye. I fought at your side." Lancel looked to her The look in her eyes made him feel slightly ashamed. She was a girl, a lady, younger than him, and terrified.
