I wait a while for him to calm down. He gets up but I don't realize it until its too late. He turns around and sees me behind the tree.
"What are you doing here?" He raises his voice, "I came here so I didn't have to talk to anyone. Especially you!"
"Look I know you're mad but.."
"Mad? No way I'm so passed mad!"
"Please! Just.. Can't we talk for a little bit? Please we need to talk." He looks away and I just stare at him.He looks so perfect. With his jeans and black shirt his hair messed up a little. Just like the first day I met him.
He notices me staring at him and says, "What are you looking at?"
I'm quiet for a few seconds then say,
"I'm looking at the guy I totally messed up with. The guy I said things to that I really wish I could take back. The guy I really wish would listen to me so I could talk to him."
He looks down.
"Ugh fine. You don't have to be so dramatic." I laugh a little as he sits down on the floor and uses the rock as a backrest. I walk up and do the same. I look at him but he just looks out at the view. "It's really beautiful isn't?" I say still looking at him. But he stays silent for a while then finally speaks.
"Why did you kiss him? And let him do that to you?" My turn to be silent. I look down and don't say anything. It takes me while to respond before I say,
"I don't know. He tricked me and.."
"No I could tell that you wanted to." He interrupts.
I sigh, "I don't know.. I guess I kinda did.. But you were right. He is fake. I'm surprised I didn't see it before. It was so obvious!" I look away as my eyes start to get glossy. Wayne seems to notice.
"It's not you're fault. He's really good at being fake. Like I told you before, my mom doesn't even realize it."
"Why don't you tell her then?"
"I've tried but she doesn't believe me." I nod. "Yeah... Well anyway I just thought there was a chance he actually liked me. But it's obvious he doesn't. He was just using me. And I guess I just thought of all the people that were watching... He asked if I wanted to put on a show for them and I really did. I wanted to prove myself to people I don't even like! I mean how sad is that?"
"I understand. That's how it is for pretty much everyone."
"Yeah. Sadly... And I am so sorry I said that about your dad today! I know nothing about your family. I didn't have the right to say that."
"Yeah you didn't. Just believe me. You can't really trust much of what Jake says."
"Yeah, I know that now. Oh but you'll be happy to hear about what I did today." He looks at me confused and I smile.
"So Jake came to my school to pick me up.." Wayne rolls his eyes as I say that. "...And he pretended to run over my little brother and was cracking up about it so I punched him in the face." Wayne just looks at me. Surprised? Probably. Then I see a smile creep on his face and he starts laughing.
"You know you probably shouldn't have done that. He must be so pissed right now!" He says still laughing. I laugh with him.
"Yeah he didn't look too happy when I left him with a bloody nose." He laughs more and says
"His biggest worry was probably not getting blood on his car." We both laugh harder, then finally calm down.
"So are we okay?" I ask looking into his eyes.
"Yes we're good." He says smiling at me.
I hear some rustling of leaves behind us and we both look back. My heart races with anger.
"Well don't you two look cute together?" With a smirk on his face, Jake stands by the tree, looking at us.
"What are you doing here?" I say mockingly. He glares at me and I realize as he gets a little bit closer to us he has something on his nose but I can't tell if its like a cast or just a strip. I try to keep from laughing but it doesn't really work because Wayne starts laughing like crazy.
"Nice cast you got there. Want me to sign it?" I start laughing and Jake just glares at us some more.
"Oh you think this is funny?"
"No this is hilarious!" Wayne says still laughing.
"No it's not! I have work tomorrow and they're gonna be pissed because I have to present something to a huge company. They're not going to give us money if I have this thing on my face!" I think yelling made his nose hurt. He tries to hide it but doesn't do a good job at it and we start laughing even harder and Jake just glares at us.
"Well we can color it all nice for you if you want." I say and Wayne starts laughing again.
"No! Oh and mom is very upset about this too. But don't worry babe. I told her it was all Wayne's fault." He smirks at Wayne who's smile faded as soon as Jake said babe. Jake must have noticed too because he says,
"Oh did she not tell you? We're dating now. Yes it happened this morning. Oh yeah, you were there weren't you? Yup that was amazing. Can't wait until tonight. " Jake winks at me and my face becomes hot with anger. I stand up.
"First of all, don't you EVER call me babe again! Second, I already told you I am not and never will be your girlfriend." He laughs.
"We'll see about that." But I keep talking as if he didn't say anything.
"And all that's going on tonight is you sitting on the couch icing your stupid face because you got punched in the nose by a girl! And on top of that, she's way younger than you! Have fun thinking about that." By now I'm up in his face and our bodies are pretty close. He puts his lips close to my ear and whispers, "Yeah and you looked pretty freakin' hot when you did it." He says and squeezes my butt. At that moment I try to punch him in the nose in the same place I did before but he catches my fist before I can and has me in an arm lock. Me facing Wayne now and my arm behind my back. "Guess you're not fast enough huh?" He says softly in my ear. I struggle to get out of his grasp but he just grabs me harder.
"Jake stop!" Wayne says moving toward him. Then Jake laughs and adds
"I wouldn't do that if I were you! I know you don't want me to say anything but you know I will!"
Wayne backs off and looks at me with sympathy but I just glare at him. "Come on. I'll tell mom I did it and its all my fault" Wayne says pleadingly.
"I know you will. And you're gonna.." As he talks he becomes distracted and lightens his grip without realizing. So I turn in a way that doesn't hurt my arm and kick him in the stomach so hard he falls back on the tree then to the ground. I look down at him.
"You wouldn't know. You were stupid enough to close your eyes when I told you to. Did you really think I wanted to kiss you? Ha! Never again in my life." He just looks up at me, holding his stomach. His eyes full of rage but I couldn't care less. I walk down the hill and start walking home and then I hear Jake yell something. I can't make out what he says at first but then I realize he said
"You're gonna regret that you little brat!"
But I keep walking. Wishing I didn't have to see him ever again but I'm gonna have to face him sooner or later.
