---------WAYNE'S POV--------
I pause for a second, trying to remember. My mind was still a little foggy. Then I start,"Ok so after you left, Jake started yelling at me for being up there with you."
"Why does he care?" She interrupts. I look at her confused,"I don't know... Do you like him or something?" She looks at me like I'm crazy. "What? No! Why would I like him? He's a complete jerk." I can tell she kinda likes him. No matter how much she denies it. She liked him before she knew he was a jerk. So she must still like the Jake she knew before she found out how horrible he was. I'm really not surprised. He has that kind of effect on people. "Ok well he was yelling at me and he said,'So you think this is funny?' He was talking about his nose and he went on and said,'Well then it's gonna be hilarious when I'm done with you!' And I told him he couldn't do anything to me because of our mom and she'd know that he did it to me. And he said,'No as long as I'm ok she won't care.' And again I told him that wasn't true and he couldn't do anything. Then I started walking down the hill but he grabbed me by the back of my shirt. Then threw me to the ground and started kicking me. So I got back up and told him I wasn't going to fight him. And he said I was afraid to fight him and I said,'No you're just not worth fighting.' And he flipped out and went to punch me but I dodged him and punched him in the stomach right where you kicked him.. That was amazing by the way!" She smiles, looking at the ground and I look at her without realizing. She's just so beautiful, even if she is in her pajamas. Her light brown hair hiding her face a little, and the other side of her hair, pulled perfectly behind her ear. And her hazel eyes. She's just so perfect.. She looks at me smiling,"What? Do I have something on my face?"
I laugh,"No it's just.. Nothing never mind. Just that kick was amazing." She laughs and says,"Thanks. My uncle used to be a black belt in karate and was a pro at pretty much any type of fighting you could think of."
"That's awesome! Maybe he can show me some moves one day."
She sadly looks down at her hands and doesn't say anything.
"You ok?" She looks up at me. "Huh? No, yea I'm fine." She fake chuckles and tells me to go on. I decide I'll ask her another time about it and go on,"Ok so um.. Where was I?.. Oh yea and so I punched him and he fell back on the tree. Then I tried to walk away but then he ran at me and tackled me to the ground and started punching me and there was some huge branch next to me I guess and that's where I got this cut." I point to the one on my arm that she had to wrap up. "And then I pushed him off of me and got up and he was on the floor so I kicked him a few times really hard. And then I heard someone yell,'Stop! I'll drive you!' And I got distracted so Jake grabbed my leg and pulled it hard and I fell back and hit my head on the rock. Then he got up and kicked me some more and found a big stick, I guess, I don't know my sight was a little foggy. And then he hit me hard on the side and that's how I got this thing on my side. And then I blacked out." She gets up and comes to me. "Wait you hit your head on that rock? How did you not get a concussion?" She looks at my head closely.
"I don't know. I'm lucky I guess." She keeps looking and and moves my hair around. "Sorry this is probably weird. I'm just surprised I didn't see any blood in your hair. That must have been a bad hit."
"You have no idea.. Ow!" I cuss and say,"What was that for?"
"Ha! I knew there had to be something. You have a bump on your head. You're lucky. It's not too bad and it's not bleeding. Just put some ice on it. Is your memory okay?" I move my feet so she can sit on the chair in front of me.
"I don't know. My mind was a little foggy when I was trying to remember what happened."
"That makes sense. But you explained what happened pretty good. How long were you out?"
I try to think,"Well when that happened it was getting dark and when I woke up.... I can't remember all of a sudden.."
"Ok. Well something that I think is weird is how fast you got here. I mean with a hit head and bad side.. You don't remember walking back or anything?"
I try to think harder but then my head starts hurting. "I'm sorry. I can't." "That's fine. Just let me know if you remember anything." I nod. She was being so patient with me. "Thank you so much Janet. I'm glad I came here."
She smiles at me and says,"Me too." I smile back at her.
Then she gets up and goes back to her bed,"Ok I'm gonna ask you some stuff. To see if you're memory's ok."
I nod and say ok.
"Ok, what's your name?"
"What?"
"Just answer the question."
"Ok fine. Wayne."
"Your mom's name?"
"Rose."
"Ok, um.. Who's pajamas are you wearing?"
"Um your uncles?"
"Is that a question or an answer?"
She says laughing. I laugh too and say,"Answer."
"Wow you were actually listening."
"Well of course I am. I mean you're the one who said it."
She smiles,"Worry about the questions,Bruises, not about being a kiss up." I smile too and she continues,"Ok, um what was your first Halloween costume as a kid?"
I try to think,"Um.. I think I was a flowe.. Wait what kind of question is that?"
"Wait, were you gonna say a flower?" She starts laughing like crazy and I can't help but laugh too,"Hey. Don't be mean! What were you on your first Halloween?"
"Well I wasn't a flower that's for sure." She starts laughing again,"Seriously Wayne, that is so manly."
"Yes. It was. Because I was an evil flower and I had thorns." She laughs even harder and I start laughing too,"What were you?"
"Nope. Not telling."
"Come on you tricked me into telling you! I deserve to know what you were!" She looks at me, as if she was thinking hard,"Fine! I was a..." And she mumbles something that I can't understand. "What?" She mumbles again and I say again,"What?!"
"A bikini model!" I start bursting with laughter and she just glares at me trying not to smile. "A bikini model? Woah. You were a slutty little girl!"
She laughs,"Shut up. My uncle's wife thought it'd be cute." I nod trying not to laugh,"Do you have your costume still?" I say in a weird but joking voice. "Why you wanna see me in a bikini?"
"Hmmm.. Maybe I do."
She laughs,"Sucks cause I don't own a bikini."
"Fine fine, any bathing suit is fine."
"Oh my gosh you're such a creep." I laugh and it becomes silent.
"So why don't you tell me more about yourself. You probably know quite a bit about me because you talk to my mom but I don't know a lot about you."
"What do you mean? You know my uncle gave me those pajamas, you know... I don't own a bikini! That's something."
I laugh,"Ya not really. I don't know much about your family. Why don't you tell me about them." She looks at the floor and shrugs,"There isn't much to tell. Why don't you just talk first?"
"Um ok. Where do I start? Um.. Ok well you already know my age and stuff so um.." I didn't know what to say. I mean I didn't want to pour my heart out to her cause she'll probably think I'm crazy. She notices I don't know what to say,"Just tell me about the things you like and don't like."
"Ok um.. I like the color blue, hate the color yellow. I like meat, but don't like chicken. Love dogs, cats are okay but I don't like birds that much..." I go on telling her things about me and she just sits there, silently listening. And then somehow my brother comes into the conversation. "What happened between you guys anyway? Cause obviously what Jake told me isn't true." I look down at my tattoo, just realizing it is totally visible with the shirt I'm wearing. I cover it up with the blanket I have and say,"It's a long, complicated story. It did have something to do with my dad though."
Right as I say it I regret it. I know I shouldn't tell her but I feel like I should. "Oh." She says. I can tell she doesn't know what to say.
I hesitate,"Janet.. Can I trust you? Like REALLY trust you?"
"Yes. With anything."
I look at my hands, nervously, wondering if I should tell her. Then I look at my tattoo. If I tell her she won't act the same. She might not believe me.. Or she could become a closer friend. I could gain so much but I could also lose so much.
So many thoughts were running through my head but I didn't have much time to think because Janet was probably waiting for me to say something. I look up at her and she's looking at me expectantly. I decide to just tell her and try to start. "You have probably seen this tattoo before." She nods. I chuckle a little and say,"Yea I'm not the best at hiding it. Well you can see it says 448S." I see confusion in her face. "Is something wrong?" I ask.
"No no. It's nothing. Go on."
I say ok and keep going,"Well it means... Well actually let me start from the beginning... So when I was..." I stop, trying to remember. "Oh yea. I was..." But before I could keep going, we hear a knock on the door.
