"M-my father... he had a heart attack. He died in the hospital this morning." Gemma's voice trembled, her face crumpling.
Damian stood there, stunned, before opening his arms. Gemma collapsed into him, sobbing while her fingers threaded the soft fabric of his shirt. He hesitated before wrapping his arms around her, his embrace stiff and awkward. His shirt grew damp from the tears of his enemy, who now turned to him in despair.
Chloe appeared at the doorway, her eyes wild with shock and rage. Her hands trembled, and her knees shook, barely holding her up. To see another woman—that woman—in the arms of her lover was enough to make her want to throw up.
Gemma.
"How could you?!" Chloe shrieked, her voice breaking into shards from the intensity of her scream.
Damian's eyes darted to her across the hallway, his arms still around Gemma. "Babe, it's not what you think—"
"Not what I think?" Pain resonated from Chloe's piercing cry—one of a broken-hearted banshee. "How did she reach the front door and into your arms? I couldn't even get past security when I needed to tell you something that could've changed our lives years ago!"
Damian's eyebrows furrowed, the definition of his nose looking sharper. "What are you talking about?"
Chloe took a deep breath, steadying herself to unleash a bitter memory. "I was pregnant. I came to tell you, but your security guard threw me off the property. And right there, on the sidewalk, I lost our baby."
The revelation hit Damian like a hard punch to the gut. His mind reeled, trying to grasp the gravity of Chloe's words. "They never told me."
Hot tears streamed down her crumpled and reddened face. "You didn't know because you didn't care to find out. Here you are, playing with my heart all over again."
Gemma glanced at Chloe, coldness clouding her tearful eyes—strands of blonde hair swept over her heart-shaped face. "I'm Gemma Rochefort. I'm Damian's fiancée, by the way. You must be his slut."
Chloe scoffed, tilting her head. "I am not a slut. My name is Chloe Carter, by the way. Damian and I were together when you stole him from me. So, doesn't that make you the thief of hearts?"
"Well, here's the truth: he chose me over you, you Asian whore. I'm surprised he didn't catch the yellow fever. What do you pass around these days? Herpes? Chlamydia?" Gemma smirked, her eyes narrowing.
"Gemma, that's enough!" Damian pushed her off him and rushed over to Chloe, only to have her hand press against his chest.
"I don't need this shit." Chloe's hot glare made Damian stop in his tracks. She then shifted toward Gemma. "Get out while you can because this man here?" She gestured at Damian. "He doesn't love you."
"Damian satisfies me. He gets me wet and hot, you know." Gemma's lips curled into the smile of a cat who stole someone's cream.
Damian stalked toward Gemma and stared down at her. Hard. His voice, a mix of steel and anger, roared, "I said the other day we were over!"
