You have to be kidding me.
"Well hello again, freshman," the silhouette in the form of Bradley said, smiling in my face. The smile didn't quite reach his eyes.
"I saw you through my window," continued Bradley " working-out out there. Well, if you can even call that a workout. After just some lame sit-ups and Russian twists, you are already sweating. Good thing you didn't decide to join us, we would have to kick you out after seeing this," Bradley laughed, with his little minions behind him.
"Firstly, that wasn't my whole workout, but whatever. And secondly, Brad, why were you watching me for so long? Are you stalking me? Or, could you possibly have a crush on me? You, a mighty Gamma, on me, a poor commoner?" I mocked Bradley, enjoying how his face turned more red with every word.
"Don't you dare call me Brad ever again! And I was just trying to- to... to entertain myself! On how weak and stupid you looked," said Bradley, even more red than before. His minions were just standing there, and I don't think they were even listening.
"If you are so strong as you say, you wouldn't have a problem beating Tank over here in a little workout I come up with. What do you say?" Bradley proposed. He couldn't just drop it, could he? And he picked the biggest guy he had. Like, he surely takes steroids, there is just no way he doesn't. And I am just right after my workout, exhausted, plus I still need to go back to my dorm and shower before the tour starts. I look at the time and it is 8:30. Plenty of time to beat this prick.
"Sure. Bring it on," I said with a confident voice, even though I was scared shitless.
We started by doing some push-ups, followed by sit-ups, and finished it off with some pull-ups. Tank had a lot of strength in him. I bet it's because of all of those fake muscles. I could keep up, but I could feel my strength leaving me very quickly.
After what felt like hours, what might only have been a couple of minutes in reality, Bradley gave us a pause. If we continue to do these strength exercises, I will lose this. But if we did something with speed or movement, I might just win this- the monkey track. The monkey track was a parkour track on the playground, with hoops where one must climb over to the other side, then some ropes, through which one must get through, and a little climbing wall. The perfect exercise to win this.
"Hey Bradley, how about we do the monkey parkour. It is the only equipment in the park we didn't use." "Freshmen, do you have a defective memory? Because I can clearly remember us agreeing to letting me do the choosing, not you." "If you are scared of losing, just say so." A little of reversed psychology wouldn't hurt.
"I am not scared of losing! How dare you. Very well then. You will go through the monkey parkour while you are being timed. Because it is a tie now, the one with the lower speed will win. Max, you go first."
I get up and prepare myself. I wait for the signal to go. "Now!" screams Bradley and I run. First on the hoops to the other side. Then through the ropes and lastly climb through the climbing wall. I jumped down from the platform and walked towards Bradley to check my time.
"Four minutes and thirteen seconds. Tank, baby, you're up next," said Bradley without even looking at the timer. I am pretty sure I was quicker than that, but whatever. There is no way Tank can beat my time.
Tank started with the hoops, which he got through with what looked like no effort at all, and continued with the ropes. Midway through, he got stuck in them and by the time he got out, he was at three minutes fifty-five seconds. Bradley seemed to notice the time as well and started to look a little worried. No, scratch that, he was worried a lot. Tank tried climbing up the wall, but the studs were too small for him and his feet kept on slipping. But eventually, he got through, jumped down from the platform, and joined us.
His time was way past mine, and there was nothing that Bradley could do to keep me from winning-
"Tank, your time is three minutes and twenty-two seconds," Bradley says with a smile.
No. How?
"Hey, hey, hey, that is not true. The timer says it's-" "Well, yes, but he got stuck on the ropes, so that time he was struggling there doesn't count." "But that's kind of the whole point of the monkey track-" "Freshman, if you want to win that badly, sure, have this tiny victory, but do not let it fool you, because next time you will not win this easily," said Bradley, interrupting me again and left with his minions.
Dumbfolded, I packed my stuff and went to the dorms.
When I got to our room, PJ was still sleeping, but Bobby was already scrolling through his phone. He noticed me and greeted me.
"Hey, man. Where have you been? Plus you stink, so go and take a shower." " I was working out and met our new friend Bradley Upper-snot the greatest. He was spying on me as I was finishing my workout." "What a creep. But don't worry princess, your hero is here. I will shield you from all of your stalkers," Bobby joked, holding his phone up as a weapon, ready to attack. I laughed and went to the bathroom to take a shower.
As I got out, PJ was already waking up and just in time for my second breakfast.
We got ready and slowly made ourselves on the way towards the main building. On the way, we got some donuts, just as I thought.
As we got there, a small group of other students were already gathered in front of the building. After some time, the principal walked out of the building and started his speech, about how he is glad to see us here, how he hopes we will find lots of new friends and similar.
"... I hope you all have a wonderful time here. Our best student will show you now around the campus, so please treat him with respect. This is Bradley and he will be your tour guide today."
Bradley walked up from behind him and welcomed the crowd. "Hello, freshmen. I hope we can get along."
