Free To Be You And Me

"Hi. I'm Detective Bill Buckner. This is my partner Lilian Stanley." Dean introduced us as we flashed our badges.

"Yes. How can I help you?" The doc asked.

"We're here about the patients. The exsanguinated ones."

____

As the vampire head and body--now detached from one another--hit the ground before me, I turned just in time to see Dean pin the other vamp to the hood of his car in the dim light of the alleyway.

"Eat it, Twilight." He brought the machete down onto the creature's neck.

"I think you got a little blood right there." I gestured to Dean's cheek as I moved closer, though it was splattered across one half of his face.

____

Dean and I were washing the car later that night. I glanced up at him. "Alright, grumpy Gus, would it help if I took my shirt off? Because this whole quiet, brooding thing is not very fun."

Dean looked up at me, wiping red-tinted soap from the hood of his car. "You're offering to flash me while we're washing the car to put me in a better mood?"

"I seem to recall another promise I haven't a had to fulfill if you'd rather." I shrugged.

_____

Dean tapped his fingers against the steering wheel as Simple Man played through the radio.

Running my tongue over my bottom lip, I sat up. "Now quit being grumpy. And please, stay in your lane." I told him. "I'd rather we not crash in such a compromising position."

Dean looked over at me, eyes lingering on the passenger seat. "You're the one who insisted."

I ran a hand over my hair where his fingers had been. "I'm trying to make you feel better."

"It worked, trust me."

I slapped his arm. "Shut up."

____

"Brush your teeth." Dean told Evie as he stood in front of the mirror, trying to wipe the blood from his jacket. Evie sat in the sink in front of him, glaring.

I moved closer, Wyatt on my hip. "I'll get that if you want." I offered, adjusting the short sleeve of his gray t-shirt. "You finish getting the spawn--as Millie calls them--ready."

Dean looked up, meeting my eyes in the mirror when Cas appeared behind us. "Don't do that." He said.

"Cas!" Evie exclaimed. "Hi!"

"Hello, Evangeline." Cas replied. "Hello, Dean, Saige. Why do you have a child in the sink?"

Dean turned, lifting Wyatt from my arms. "Cas, we've talked about this. Personal space."

"My apologies." Cas said, stepping back.

Dean grabbed his jacket, crossing the room. "How did you find us? I thought we were flying below the angel radar."

I lifted Evie out of the sink, moving to sit on the couch as Dean stood at the foot of our bed.

"You are. Bobby told me where you were." Cas explained.

"Sit still." I told Evie, beginning to braid her hair.

"Where's Sam?" Cas asked, looking around. "And Millie?"

"Millie is sleeping in the next room over." I answered.

"Me and Sam are taking separate vacations for a while." Dean added, cradling an almost asleep Wyatt to his chest and rubbing his back. "So did you find God yet? More importantly, can I have my damn necklace back, please?"
