The lunch was delicious, and everyone was happy to be there.
"Boys," Riff started to announce,
"I'm movin' in with Kathleen."
Everyone just kind of sat there.
"So... You're leaving the Jets?"
Riff narrowed his eyes at Balkan.
"When you're a Jet, you're a Jet all the way. I ain't ever leaving the Jets."
He paused looking over at Kathleen for a split second.
"You's is all like family to me."
The boys all smiled simultaneously.
"Well congrats Riff, and Kathleen."
The girls had a bit more decorum than the boys.
There was a brief silence in the air.
"Let's go to the docks." Ice suggested.
The boys starting nodding and agreeing whereas the girls groaned.
"I- Why don't we go to Gimbels or Sears or something? I still need to get a dress for the dance so maybe you guys could help me out?" Kathleen stepped in.
The girls were excited by the idea.
"Alright. I'll clean up here, everyone go and freshen up or something- and I don't want anybody's help." She taunted.
Everyone started filing out of the room, the girls going upstairs.
"You sure you don't want my help, doll?"
Kathleen looked at Riff lovingly.
"You could just help me pile up the dishes and put them by the sink if you really insist. But nothing more."
As Riff started, Kathleen helped him in doing so.
"Just put them right here, I'll clean them later."
Riff nodded, and did as he was told.
"Alright. Ready to go?" Kathleen asked as she wiped her hands with a towel.
Riff walked over to Kathleen, hugging her from the waist, and digging his head into her shoulder from behind.
"You alright?" She asked, her hands immediately finding his head of hair, combing through it.
Riff mumbled back a response.
"Pardon?"
"I love you."
Kathleen smiled.
"I love you, too, Riff."
"I don't wanna leave you."
Kathleen chuckled lightly, "It'll only be a few hours, and you live here now anyway, you'll get to see me every night, and every time you wake up in the morning. You don't have to miss me, silly."
Riff squeezed her tightly, moving from the back to the front of her body.
"If you want to stay here, you could take a nap or something. You don't have to come with us."
Riff shook his head, still into her shoulder.
"Nah, I gotta go with the Jets."
Kathleen frowned, "Wouldn't they understand?"
"They would, but it'd feel weird. Them bein' out there, and me takin' a nap."
Kathleen hummed at his argument.
With one final brush through his hair, Kathleen pulled him away from his shoulder. They were staring into each other's eyes, Kathleen took notice of how one of his eyes was completely brown, whereas the other was half blue, split right down the middle.
"Can I kiss you?"
"Riff, you know what I said, I-"
He bent down before she could say another word. Their lips pressed together for a moment, before being broken off.
Kathleen was red as she hid her face in her hands.
"Aw, come on doll. We've been together for a while now, why are you still shy?"
Kathleen shook her head, before swiftly tilting her head to meet Riff's blue-brown eyes.
"Okay, I'm going to go find the girls."
Riff nodded slowly.
"I love you." Kathleen said as she walked out of the kitchen. When Riff didn't answer back, she looked around the corner.
"I love you, too."
She smiled, and walked up the stairs.
