Lunch was ready when Riff and Kathleen walked through the front, and it smelled good.
"Just put your stuff in my room, and come to the dining room."
The two parted ways, and Kathleen stepped into the kitchen.
"Hey girls, what'd you make? It smells so good."
Dot smiled,
"Chicken and dumplings. Mamie's the best at making it."
Kathleen smiled and raised her eyebrows as Mamie became flustered.
"I'm excited to try it. Do you need help setting the table?"
"Nope, it's all done. In fact we were just going to eat."
Kathleen nodded then decided to go check on Baby John.
Knocking the door as she walked into the room he was in.
"Hey kiddo, how are you?"
"Hi Kathleen. I'm okay. My throat hurts."
Kathleen nodded and checked his temperature with the back of her hand.
"You don't have a fever anymore though, so that's good. I'm sure you'll be feeling better in no time. For now though, try sitting up. Switch between sitting and lying down, so you don't feel too gross or drowsy."
"How do you know all this? You should be a doctor or something." He coughed out.
Kathleen chuckled at his comment.
"I had a lot of younger siblings growing up, so I know how to take care of a cold or two."
Kathleen smiled at Baby John. He reminded her of her own brother who she hadn't seen since her wedding.
A knock at the door.
"Hey guys, everything alright?"
Riff walked in,
"Yeah, just a cold. He'll be fine in no time."
Riff smirked at Baby John.
"Ain't you glad that Kathleen pulled you out of the rainer sooner than later?"
"I never said I wasn't."
Kathleen patted the sick boy's head.
"Alright. Have you eaten?"
After he nodded, Kathleen left the room with Riff.
"You're doin' too much for us, doll. I've already told everyone that they gotta leave tonight, before dinner."
Kathleen gasped slightly.
"Why would you do that? I'm more than happy to have them here. If they don't have anywhere to go they can stay her-"
"Doll. I know, but you deserve some rest. I know you care for the Jets, but they'll be fine on their own. Now let's go eat."
Kathleen sighed and headed into the dining room.
"Baby John can't leave though. He's still sick."
Riff chuckled, "Alright doll. You can keep Baby John."
Kathleen smiled victoriously.
