Chapter 1: The not-exactly-cat and what-humans-would-have-called an alien

A young boy was walking along with his dad. He saw something that looked exactly like a cat. Poor boy... What tricks was fate playing this time?

"Kitty!! Say meow meow kitty!" said the boy.

"Meow meow," said the cat with human voice. The kid screamed and ran to his dad.

"Why are you shouting, son?" his dad asked.

"That cat spoke!" answered the boy.

"Really, what did it say?" his dad asked, expecting one of the usual stories made out of his son's huge imagination.

"It said meow meow," whispered the boy, afraid that the cat will hear them.

"Cats say meow meow all the time!!" his dad exclaimed feeling tired of explaining the obvious. The boy had heard correctly the something-that-looked-exactly-like-a-cat speak with human voice but this story is not about him. No... this story is about the not-exactly-cat. It is also about what humans would have called an alien named Axel.

Now I am just going to pop on Arkateles 4 to see how Axel is. How are you Axel? Everything fine on Arkateles 4? (He can't hear me so he won't answer but things on Arkateles 4 are something very close to the exact opposite of fine. An explanation as to why things are not fine will be given later in this chapter)

Arkateles 4 is Axel's planet, well... new planet. When he was seven, Arkatelians were forced to leave Arkateles 3 because some bloodthirsty creatures were trying to eat them. Arkatelians named the creatures BlackAAA because when the creatures first appeared, the people who got a chance to scream before they were eaten alive screamed BlackAAA! Beautiful story isn't it? Well it gets better; half of the population was eaten by BlackAAA in the first day. Older kids thought it would be fun to wander around during the night so that they could get a chance to prove themselves by killing a BlackAAA. These vicious creatures loved the idea of young crunchy flesh wandering willingly right into their (proverbial) webs. They decided that younger Arkatelians were more tasty so, by the time the spaceships were ready there weren't many kids left. Some babies survived the attack because BlackAAAs thought it would be too much trouble to try and get past Arkatelians' defenses for such a small meal.
Bla-bla-bla... Arkatelians left Arkateles 3... Bla-Bla-bla... There was no sign of the creatures and Arkatelians lived in harmony for eight years... Bla-bla-bla... The attack!! Now things get interesting!

But before we get to that, have I ever described the BlackAAAs? Well, they are small and fully covered in black fluffy hair, rather cute when they don't try to kill you. Those little lovable creatures have claws hidden in their fluffy paws, claws so sharp that they could tear human flesh apart within minutes. BlackAAAs make no sound when closing on their prey. They have abnormally huge teeth compared to their size and that's not because they want their smiles to shine in pics. They live in underground tunnels and they can see clearly in the dark. They have strong legs and they are very limber. No window can stop them from getting in the house and no electric field poses them any threat. They can move really fast, making it almost impossible for Arkatelians to shoot them and I think that's all I have to tell. Move on, the interesting bit is next. (Lol)

It was midnight. The night was warm and welcoming. A light breeze was blowing silently creating the illusion of a peaceful night. Creatures were lurking in the dark waiting for the perfect moment to attack and there it was, the moment they were waiting for: a girl thinking herself safe inside her house moved close to the window, completely unaware of the creatures spying on her. The window broke. Something hairy was inside the house. She spotted the creature. Poor girl....

"Don't be afraid," she called out in her sweet childish voice. She was used to seeing little harmless creatures; she had no idea what this seemingly cute creature in front of her could do... what it would do... "Come here little black-""AAA!" screamed the girl as the creature attacked her. Her mother came a minute later, but it was too late.

"This can't be true!" she muttered hoping that this was just another nightmare, hoping against hope that BlackAAAs had not managed to come in Arkateles 4. That night the red sirens rang once more and parents were woken up in complete confusion.

"BlackAAAs can't be here!" they cried desperately. After an hour of crying they started grumbling about government, pest control and fate being really unfair to them, but in the end, they accepted the fact that they simply weren't safe anymore and by morning adults were already devising a plan.

Nowhere in Arkateles 4 was safe any more for teenagers, since they had never learned how to use weapons. But maybe, just maybe, they could survive on another planet. You might have already guessed what will happen next, but I will make sure to tell you all not too soon.
