Chapter 3

Peyton POV

My face was hovering over Rowan's, the closest I've ever been to her.

She stared up at me with her big brown eyes.

"Uh, sorry." I said, getting off of her.

She laughed as I helped her up. "Hahaha, it's fine. If I hadn't slowed down from all the laughing, you would've never caught me."

"Hahaha in your dreams, I'm way faster than you." I said.

"Wanna race?" She asked.

"Sure." I said, positive that I was gonna win.

We lined up and Sabrina and Corey were by our sides, ready to yell go.

"3 2 1 GOOOOOOO!!!!" They both screamed.

I ran as fast as I could, with Rowan next to me. I pushed and pushed to run harder. Eventually Rowan fell behind me.

I thought I was way ahead of her when she jumped on my back.

"Heyyy!!!" I yelled.

"I'm not losing this race." She said.

I kept running to the finish line, with Rowan bouncing on my back.

Once I past the line, Rowan leaned her head over my shoulder and towards my face and said, "Tie." Then jumped off.

"Hahaha I guess." I said. "We should probably get back to Corey and Sabrina." I said.

"Omg look at that cloud!!! It looks like-"

I picked her up and ran towards Sabrina and Corey.

"Hey!!! I was looking at that cloud. It seriously looked like a horse!!!" Rowan said as I put her down.

I laughed. "You're so weird."

She looked serious. "And your annoying." But then she started laughing again.

By the time we went back inside it was dark outside and around 10:00.

Rowan and Sabrina had grass all over their clothes and hair so they went into the bathroom to clean off.

"Hey, I saw you and Rowan get pretty close." Corey said, once the girls were out of earshot.

"Yeah, but nothing happened." I answered.

"Dude, you know if you don't ask her out soon, someone else will."

"What do you mean? Who?" I asked.

"Well, it might just be rumors, but I heard that some friend of Rowan's that she's known for a while is looking to ask her out."

"What's this guys name? How old is he"
I asked.

"His name is Chris something. And he's 16, like you. Yup, he is also 3 years older than Rowan and he worked up the courage to ask her out."

Oh no. This is bad, this is really bad. I had to ask Rowan out tonight.

"Ok I think I'll ask her out tonight. But after you and Sabrina are asleep. Ok?" I asked, nervous.

"Yeah, yeah." He said with a smirk on his face.

A few minutes later Sabrina and Rowan walked out of the bathroom all clean and in their pajamas. "Alright, ready to cry boys?" Rowan asked.

"Please we aren't babies like you two."
Corey said.

"But Gus, he, he. Nevermind, I can't spoil the movie." Sabrina says.

"Yeah and Gus and Hazels love is so adorable. And so sad." Rowan said.

"Whatever, let's get this over with." I said.

We turned on the movie. It was pretty sad, but I'm not a crier.

Halfway through the movie Corey and Sabrina fell asleep. Rowan was on one side of me and Corey was on the other. Sabrina was sleeping next to Rowan.

Towards the end of the movie, Rowan started crying. I leaned over and wiped her tears.

"Thanks." She said with a sniffle, not taking her eyes off the movie. I decided to ask her out after the movie. She looked a little pre-occupied.

When the movie was over, Rowan's face was matted with tears.

"Hey, Rowan, can I ask you something?" I said.

She turned towards me and wiped a tear. "Yup?"

"Why does 2 people, who you don't even know, make you cry?" I asked.

"Well, the way Gus is, how much he loves Hazel, and then dies and everything crumbles. It's just so sad. Maybe I'm just a drama queen." She said with a smile.

"Haha no. So, I was wondering, did you, uh," I scratched my neck. "wanna go out to like to Starbucks or something? Like just you and me?" I said it. Phew. Now just wait for her answer.

She blushed a little. "Sure. When?"

Yes? Yes!!!

"Um, maybe like on Friday?" Friday was in 2 days so I had enough time to
get ready.

"Ok. Can't wait." She said.

Wow this whole time I was so scared, and it was that easy?

About a half an hour later, Rowan fell asleep with her head on my chest. I put my arm around her and kissed her head. Good thing she was asleep.

Then she got a text:

Chris😎👊: Hey Row, wanna go out?

Wow what class. Too bad buddy, I already asked her. I didn't want to wake up Rowan, but I had to clear this up. I nudged Rowan awake.

"Hmmm? She said sleepily. She picked her he's up off my chest.

"You got a text. I handed her phone to her.

She laid back to where I could see what she was saying:

Rowan🙆😛: Sorry, someone else already, asked me out.

She looked at me and smiled.
