I Am Afraid of the Dark

I am afraid of the dark.

I am not afraid

Of what is in the dark

Because if I was afraid of what I can't see,

I would be afraid of everything.

I am afraid of the dark.

I am scared of the twisted smiles,

How the black manipulates itself to look like white teeth

How it moves, how it suffocates, how it drowns.

How it surrounds you, grins,

and decides you are no longer safe.

I am afraid of the dark.

I see things,

Tall men, small children, and shadows.

These men are not always kind,

These children are not always happy,

These shadows do not always smile with play.

I am afraid of the dark.

I see it in light too,

The dark in my vision.

Sometimes you do not leave,

You move and follow me around

I am afraid of the dark.

Your voice is not one i want to hear,

Yet its constantly ringing in my ear.

I wake with scratches, i can't look in the mirror.

I do not see myself in the glass.

I am afraid of the dark.

I hallucinate,

I know you are not there because no one else can see you,

Yet you are so convincing.

You make me feel like my body is not my own.

I am afraid of the dark.

Am I going crazy?

Would it even show?

Why cant you just leave me alone,

Leave.

I am afraid of the dark.

I am tired of seeing faces in windows,

People who are not there,

I want to see myself in mirrors,

Not the dark.

I am afraid of the dark.
