Maddy's Pov:
It didn't take us long to get there, but the ice had mostly melted. I cringe as I glance at the burn.
"You think if I told everyone I got bit by a vampire, they'd believe me?" I ask Eve, only half-joking.
"Just tell them you had company last night. What do they know?"
"I can't. First of all, even I wouldn't believe that. Second, Dakota and I have been talking. It'd be so fucked up for me to say that."
"Quinn was a surprise, but Joshua is known to be a player Maddy. Be careful. Speaking of Quinn, have you thought about what you're going to say?"
I watch her touch up her lipstick, lost in my thoughts. How do I even approach the topic? Like - 'oh by the way, I'm just wondering why you ditched me that night after we made out like a million times.'
"No. Do you have any ideas?"
"Pull him aside after practice. Petey and I will hang out. Why don't you grab dinner with Quinn?"
I laugh out loud. Dinner with him? Never.
"Not as a date. It doesn't even have to be a restaurant. Just something quick from a drive-through."
I narrow my eyes, sensing there's something she's not telling me.
"Or I just ask to talk after practice. Simple."
"My plan was better," she mumbles, putting her makeup away. Rolling my eyes, I check for my wallet and keys, then hop out of the car.
...
We push open the doors, immediately hit with the cold air. The arena looks so different without the crowds. As we walk further in, I realize I left my jacket at home. Perfect. I cross my arms frowning, trying to stay warm.
"They should be out soon," Eve says. I nod, taking a seat beside her. We sit in the middle for a good view. My stomach twists into knots. Quinn went from being a stranger-hot stranger-to a hookup, to the most insufferable human. Now, we're supposed to become friends? Hell no. Maybe just acquaintances.
Eve nudges me, pointing to the ice. Hronek is out first, followed by Cole and Garland. I get excited when I see Dakota. All though he never messaged me back, but I dismiss it. Probably just busy. Hughes is one of the last to hit the ice, fitting for him. They gather around their coach, but I can't make out what he's saying. I'm not any sort of expert with hockey, so it sounds like a whole other language anyway.
The practice begins. None of the boys notice us except Petey, who smiled at Eve earlier. I hope things work out with them. I keep my eyes on Joshua, except when they wander over to Quinn. Which is every damn time. I eventually stop fighting it. Letting my gaze follow Quinn, he handles the puck with great speed and care. It's easy to see that boys passion for hockey. I can't deny how good he is. Despite my best efforts, my eyes travels to his veiny hands, making my heart race. Every girl's weakness is hands, just something about them. I subtly press my thighs together, trying to get my head out of the gutter. When I look back up, I'm met with his green eyes staring at me. Well shit. My stomach fills with butterflies. I mentally curse at myself. His face stays blank, but his eyes blink repeatedly, confused. I give a small smile, starting the process of making amends. Before he can process, the coach calls his name, pulling his attention away. I turn to Eve, who's already staring with a weird smile.
