Time: Present Day
Location: Vatican City
Once Peter and Graz were safely outside and couldn't possibly hear through the four inch thick soundproofing in the door Enrico said, "So the plan is that we blow up the plane on Wednesday and take out this Layla and her boyfriend. Will it be more difficult now to take out the rest of the family by similar means on Friday? Perhaps our friend from ISLA can comment?"
Jihad Yazzi looked up from the papers he had been studying.
"More difficult, yes. More security after the first bombing of course. However, you have provided us with good intelligence and smoothed the security issues, somewhat, with your money. We also have a new method which means we can plant both bombs at the same time. So long as you ensure that the planes are not switched by maintenance staff. We will use a combination timer and altitude detector.
"The bombs are designed like the outer casing of the engine and will be put in place by my men at night posing as maintenance personnel. Once the timer is activated the bombs detonate when the altitude decreases by more than ten per cent destroying both engines. There is no escape.
"ISLA will claim responsibility as planned and discussed. You only need to bank transfer the funds to our account immediately on detonation of the devices."
Enrico waved Anita away,
"Anita has warned me that we have two extra visitors! She has seen one of them, briefly. She believes his name is Carter! Yes . . . Carter Cheval. They are obviously here to listen in on our plans and try to thwart them. But I am sure they will not be able to, so easily, stop us this time. Not now that we have Anita to warn us when they are around. Anita was staring at him. A manic expression swept across her face as she leered at him. Carter panicked and fled through the door. He was relieved to see Teacher on the other side.
Teacher then asked the vexing question. "What are you intending to do, Carter Cheval? Will you let them blow up the first plane and have Layla join you again? Then, you could try and warn the authorities about the second bomb somehow. Or will you try and save them all and leave Layla to perhaps marry your best friend? She does seem happy with him, but it's up to you. You know it has always been up to you."
Before he could even think about the answer his father said, "They're going to kill me, aren't they? They are probably taking a vote right now."
"Don't be so melodramatic Petros, of course they're not going to kill you. I told you you are the future, our future. We have spent years grooming you for your future role. We are unlikely to throw all that away because of a few rash comments. As I said in there, I think you are right, we would be wise to let things settle and see what happens. They can't prove anything, really, and even if they did come up with something, you are right, we could contain it using diplomatic immunity and our soverign status. But I'm afraid Enrico doesn't see it that way. He prefers action, always has, acted in haste, sometimes to our detriment. He has the confidence of the Pope though so as long as Enrico is the Black Pope and as the General, is in charge of operations your friends are doomed I'm afraid. This is his last mission. He'll want to go out with a bang, excuse the pun."
"You must decide quickly Carter Cheval the meeting is about to conclude."
Carter's blue cord changed colour through gold to bright fire red and started pulsing. He stepped directly into his father's path and shoved his cord into Peter's centre spine. Peter uttered a sharp cry that put the Swiss guard on alert.
Disable the guard, grab the gun. Carter planted in Peter's brain.
Peter rammed his elbow into the guard's mouth, smashing his lips against his teeth. His front teeth broke from the impact. The guard screamed and gurgled through a stram of broken teeth and blood. He bit his own tongue and let go of his weapons. The spear crashed to the floor as he put both hands up to his shattered mouth.
Grab the Glock
Peter grabbed the guard's Glock 19 from his holster.
"No! Peter! What are you doing!" Graz screamed at him.
Peter pushed Graz away with super force that sent him spinning away from the door. Peter burst through the door, turned and locked it behind him.
Enrico jumped to his feet. Peter aimed at his forehead click.
Take the safety off, Peter, Carter whispered.
Peter slid the side safety catch.
"Don't be foolish, Pet. . . " Enrico's warning was cut short as a bullet smashed into his forehead and exploded into his brain. He dropped forward spilling blood across the table.
"For Amelia!" Peter yelled.
Andre had reached instinctively for his gun but his leg holster was empty. He charged at Peter. . .
He was almost on him when Peter put three bullets in his chest, sending him barreling back into his son, Anton, who was a step behind him.
Peter turned the gun towards Jihad Yazzi but before he could get another shot off Yazzi dived to the floor behind the conference table with the others. Peter started over there to get a better shot. As he passed Anton jumped up at him from the floor below and started wrestling for control of the gun.
The door behind them flew open and the door pushed the struggling pair towards the conference table where the others were crouched behind hiding.
Anton was fighting the combined power of Peter and Carter, but was still winning the battle for the Glock. Anton felt a surge of rage as he saw his father's body spreadeagled on the floor. He grabbed the gun with both hands and was turning it towards Peter's head, he searched for the trigger.
Graz yelled."No Anton! Don't Anton!"
He turned to the guard, "Antonio do something, stop them!"
The guard with the broken teeth grinned a crooked grin. He was going to enjoy this. As he went to disable the pair with his spear Anton shoved Peter turning him towards the guard, his spear pierced Peter's side, blood spurted. Peter lost the Glock. Anton raised it to Peter's head as he fell.
"No! Anton! Nooooo.!"
Peter collapsed to the floor bleeding profusely. Antonio the Swiss Guard raised his spear to strike Peter again.
Anton said "Fuck it. Fucking crazy priests." He fired off three shots . . . into the chest of Antonio and threw the gun to the floor, he knelt beside his father and wept bitterly.
"No! No! Petros, what have you done!"
Graz turned to Anita, "Call One, One,Three, get an ambulance here quickly!"
