Time: 23 Years Prior
Location: Sydney, Australia

The 000 Emergency operator took the call that fateful day. She tried to make sense of the elderly caller. The old lady had said she heard screams, terrible screams, death screams, she should know she said, she'd been an emergency room nurse for 40 years!

It was next door. Two young people fighting. They had often fought. This time was different. She just knew it in her bones. Something dreadful had happened.

Constable Tony Birch took the call at 8.40 am that Sunday morning. Holiday weekends were always busy. It was a time to drink and have fun. It was also a time to drink and to kill.

Tony pulled up at the house, he'd been at this house before. Twice this week in fact. Bloody Itais he thought. They came over here looking for a new life supposedly. In reality the majority it seems were minor mafia figures, would be drug lords or pimps.

He pulled up , , , sirens blaring. He drew his pistol and announcing he was the police. He stormed through the front door. There was blood everywhere. So much blood. Someone was dead here.

He searched downstairs then went up. It was there he found her. A bloody mess in the bathroom. A trail of blood led from the master bedroom to the killing room. She had been stabbed multiple times. So young he thought. It was a shame. Some people just can't leave it alone. They fight until they explode in violent rage. Mostly they can't understand why they did it. When calm, remorse sets in, but you can't go back. Words and knives. You can't take them back. He found the guy in the garage. Hanging by an ocky strap, eyes bulging. Effective hangman's rope, Tony thought. Most people fuck it up. He hadn't.

He rang it in, told them he'd secure the site but had to leave. They said they'd have a forensics unit there in minutes.

Carter watched as the police car pulled up outside the house. He watched the policeman get out of the squad car and enter the house. Tony looked around once inside, he was just about to call out when he saw the blood, so much blood. He went across to the laundry.

Saw the bloody towel, the condom. He drew his gun. Listened . . . nothing. He climbed the stairs following the blood trail. He stopped, heard something from the far bedroom. He stopped outside the bedroom. Slowly inched the door open, gun ready. "Amelia . . . you alright . . .Amelia?

The boy sat bolt upright. He was naked.

"What the hell's going on?"

Carter was fascinated. He felt the panic in the boy . . , bewilderment. The policeman was young, something about him was familiar. It was his uncle, his uncle was young, angry, so young though.

"What's wrong with Amelia? What have you done? What the fuck have you done to her?"
He shook her. She was still . . . so still! The boy was hysterical now, started shaking the girl too.

"Wake up . . , wake up!" he screamed. She stirred then threw up.

"You! Stop!" he pointed the gun at the boy. "Get out of bed, now! Stand over there!" Tony shook her. "You alright darlin'?" he asked. She punched him.

"Get away from me, don't touch me!" she screamed.

"What did you give her?" The boy looked lost, he began to cry. Tony radioed for an ambulance and a paddy wagon. Once he was off the radio Tony checked the girl's pulse. He looked at the boy.

"Fuckin' Itais think you can get away with anything. You gonna tell me what happened here Peter?"

The boy shook his head in bewilderment.
"She was alright last night . . . " It was barely a whisper . . . despondent.

"I am calling both your parents now and then we are going to have a little talk."

He was on the phone.

"No it's not here yet . . . I think she'll be okay once it's out of her system. Yeah I'd do that. I'll see you then, and I'll try and get the truth out of him."

The boy wasn't talking. He was in shock. Carter felt his anguish. He looked over at Teacher.
"Who are they?" he asked.

"You'll see, watch your movie Carter Cheval."

Tony looked the boy in the eye, grabbed him by the arms and sat him down on the edge of the bed.

"Now look you little prick. I'll tell you what I think happened here. I think you raped my niece. I think you drugged her downstairs and raped her. At least you used a condom, that proves prior intent though, very bad for you, then you carried her up here. She was bleeding, probably because she was a virgin! You Itai bastard, then you raped her again. She better make it, or it'll be murder! As it is you are probably going for rape. You've already turned eighteen haven't you Peter? The boy could only nod in agreement. That means no children's court. No do-gooders telling how you had a troubled childhood. No getting off scot free. You're going to gaol you little prick, for a very long time. I'm going to see to that!

With that the ambulance arrived. Carter watched as his young uncle argued with the paramedics. He lost, they insisted that the boy was in shock and needed to go to hospital too. He yelled at them to make sure they got DNA. To do sample testing at the same time as his niece's rape kit test.

"Make sure he gives you a sperm sample or I'll come and get one myself and it won't be pretty, the prick!"

He was still yelling as they bundled them both into the ambulance.

Carter looked confused, "Who's the girl, she looks familiar but I don't know anyone called Amelia.

"Don't you, Carter Cheval? Your mother has two names you know. She's here you know, your mother."

Carter panicked, "My mother died?"
He looked around couldn't see her."How long have I been here ? You're lying to me". He knew it wasn't true as soon as he said it. In his soul he knew Teacher wouldn't . . . couldn't . . . lie to him. Carter Cheval turn behind you, and meet your mother, Amelia Cheval.

He turned in time to see the lady's face behind him change. She now had the face of an Angel. It was her, the girl in the movie, a little older, but definitely her. Come to think of it she did look like early pictures he'd seen of his mum, Amanda, when she was very young, a teenager. The photos in Nan's photo album came flooding back to him, and there she was, at the beach, at Luna Park, at Circular Quay, or was it? The woman in these photos that's my Mum, he thought, Amanda that's my Mum. Amanda . . . she's my Mum. Roger . . . he's my Dad, aren't they?

Carter Cheval this is your Mum! Amelia Amanda Cheval.

Believe it, watch the movie, it will all become clear to you.
