I sighed closing the door behind me.
My life was so pathetic that no one would ever guess I once had a positive relationship with Gale. Back then, he was gentle and smiled(not so much), but now all I ever saw was his stoney face and even the way he called my name was always full of rage.
Some years back, the three of us would even sit down for a movie. Cindy had gone as far as to give us each a nickname. She was Makaria, Gale was Hades, and I was Persephone.
Was it a coincidence that she gave herself a nickname related to death? Maybe, maybe not.
"Is she dressed?" His question interrupted my daze.
A low gasp due to the unexpected presence fled my lips before I could control it, followed by my legs hopping to the other side.
"Gawd!" Gale sighed disappointed.
I looked his way. He was still in the little towel leaning against the wall like a model posing for a sexy shoot. And damn did he look hot all naked and hair down. Why did he always gel it all the time? I hardly remember the last time I saw him look so casual from head to toe.
His chest looked broad, firm, hairless, and toned. It made my hands itchy to feel it. His abs were like soft marbles placed strategically in position and varied in size. The V of his abdomen displayed his discipline and just how much he was taking care of that body.
If he were any other man, I'd have thrown myself at him and licked every part of that sculpted body, an eye-catching art by Mother Nature.
He frowned peeling his back from the wall.
"What are you looking at?"
"No-nothing!" I whipped my head to the side and bit my lip to bring back my sanity. "She's ready."
"Then why-" he came closer, too close for I could feel his breaths on my face, "-is she still in there?"
I managed to reply in a whisper, "I don't know." But I knew damn well, my brain was just shutting down from the anxiety of his invasive nearness.
"May I go to sleep now?"
Gale scoffed and I gazed up. Seeing his hand placed close to the left side of my head, my chest constricted as memories bubbled from the pits of hell. His gray eyes appeared darker than usual but they still held that spark that could draw in anyone. They had turned cold after Cindy died, killing off the warmth that used to fill them.
"Sleep? Have you forgotten where you sleep?"
My eyes hardened. "But you said that I shouldn't come in-"
"I changed my mind. Now get in there and tell her to leave."
My frown deepened. Was he now using me as a shield? Curse him and his delicious-looking body. And oh, that blond hair hanging over his head to caress my forehead, argh! The way we stood facing each other was like an intimate scene from a smut novel. If he was my boyfriend, I'd have drawn him closer by his waist and stood on my toes to offer myself like a sacrifice. Oh, wait! Hadn't I done that at the ball?
The images made heat erupt in my face.
"Okay." I quickly slipped under his arm and rushed back into his room with my heart pounding in my mouth.
"Oh, you're back!"
She was lying on the bed for the obvious reasons.
"He said you should leave."
"Leave?! Isn't he going to walk me out?"
I shrugged not wishing to engage further in the conversation.
With a roll of her eyes, she played along and got up on her feet.
A relieved sigh slipped out when she gripped the door handle. Finally! I could now sleep.
Just as I was turning to approach the bed, the girl spoke again.
"What's your name? I'd like you to be my spy around here."
"Huh?"
Our eyes met and I saw her holding up a card. She placed it on the small chest of drawers that was always behind the door and smiled. "Give me a call. The rewards will be worth more than your annual salary."
With that, she opened and walked out of the room. The door shut, bringing forth the deafening silence of being alone in this huge bedroom.
