Walking on sunshine

Despite the burning sun shining upon his head and body, Hawks felt chills running down his back.

He smiles with every ounce of politeness he had and takes a step back from Endeavor. It usually wasn't hard to hide his emotions but his wings gave it away this time with the way they stretched out.

"You got a lot of nerve for some lucky passerby, bird man. Wouldn't it be funny if I arrested you for unauthorized quirk use?" Endeavor grabbed him by the collar of his tank top and Hawks could feel the seams almost ripping apart. His feet barely hover over the ground.

His eyes locked onto the heavy blue ones of the number one.

I'm fucked.

Hawks tries to break free and was quickly dropped back down as police slowly approached them.

Lucky for him because his wings are easily flammable, a little longer of this and he would have been on fire himself. He muttered "Geez I'm sorry, I just wanted to help. I saw them on the traffic light and knew something was gonna happen."

The blonde brushes the hair out of his face and forces himself to look apologetic. God, how I hate this guy already.

Endeavor huffs at him and turns away for a moment, as if he was thinking about something. Then he fishes out a business card from his pocket and holds it out for the blonde. It wasn't a usual card, Hawks could tell.

"Huh?" he confusedly takes it into his hands and before he could read it, Endeavor took off like a rocket launching into space.

I must say I'm impressed, but he can't win me over like that.

His wings flutter open as the blast almost sweeped him off his feet. Yet he stood firm and took the time to read the little business card he recieved.

It said 'It's never too late to be a hero, take the exam at Endeavors agency and start now!' in bright red letters and contact information. With a groan he rolled his eyes and stuffed it into his bag.

He could put that to his collection of business cards later.

Hawks wiped the sweat off his face also took off before anything else could happen or the police could talk to him. He really didn't need anymore attention on him and he also had places to be. His job for example. He had promised Rumi to be there soon and now he was running late.

Would there be ever a day where things go like planned? Most likely not. So he just throws the bag over his shoulders again and runs to the pool like an idiot.

He arrives after maybe five minutes and groans in regret, running wasn't his favorite thing to do. Barely alive he changes into bathing shorts and was greeted by Mirko shortly after. She looked as stunning as yesterday, especially in her white bathing suit.

"There you are, ready for a swim?" she laughs and pulls him outside immediately.

It was a beautiful sight, the pool was completely empty and so were the acres of green around it. No sound of screaming children or anything, Hawks was thrilled. "Wow, we've got this to ourselves for a whole hour? That's crazy." he smiles at her and gets a little closer to the sports part of the place. Nosily he puts his foot into the waters and it was cold, so cold he shivered for a moment.

"Getting cold feet huh?" Mirko grinned deviously and now he realized he was standing too close.

He put his hands up in defense but to no avail, the bunny quirk woman threw herself on him and together they fell into the deep pool. The quiet ambiente was disturbed by the sounds of Hawks screams and then water splashing all over the place.

Hawks held his breath as he submerged into the waters, his wings soaked and heavy. He struggled to find the surface for a moment before Mirko pulled him up.

"You crazy bitch, I wasn't prepared!" his whole body froze before he pulled himself back up and out of the pool. He sat down on the edge and watched as Mirko happily starts swimming around. I almost drowned! He thought and looked back at his wings, they were truly heavy now and shining in a deeper red color.

The weight pulled on his back and he sighs, he was supposed to tuck them in and keep them close on his body to prevent it.

"Hey, you okay? Gosh sorry if that was too much!" his colleague swam up to him and looked at him from the waters. Hawks just shakes his head and then his wings, making them dry up at least a little. He says "No it's fine, my wings just kinda pulled me down there. No biggie."

Mirko immediately pulls herself out of the water and bows apologetically, curiously eying the wings of her new friend.

"I am so sorry, I should have thought about that." she mutters, worried about almost causing Hawks to drown. She is a trained lifeguard and should know not to pull someone into deep waters unexpectedly after all. It was something she knew to be dangerous.

Together they sat in the sun, just enjoying casual conversation and splashing the water with their legs.

And before they had to leave and get ready for work, Hawks decided to actually take a swim. He looked quite goofy with how he was moving through the cold water, but having his wings pressed to his back was the most effective way.

"Hey, you forgot to apply sunscreen didn't you?" Mirko crosses her arms disapprovingly.

Now he also realized, but it couldn't be that fatal right? Wrong, obviously he was bound to end up with a sunburn now but he couldn't care less. As he floated on his back, wings tucked securely, he let his mind wander. The blonde remembered his encounter with the number one hero as if it had just happened, probably because it actually just happened. Like an hour ago.

Why did this particular business card spike his interest? He doesn't want to be a hero, never.

"Hey Hawksie, still with me?" Mirko snapped at him and splashed a good amount of water into his direction. He grinned, trying to dodge or at least cover his face.

"Something like that. Just thinking about what it means to be a hero, I guess."
