It was a few weeks later. I was sat in my usual room playing with a toy. I was very gentle with toys, treating them like pups. I was unfortunately spade because of the rules of the hospital. But it didn't mean I couldn't treat toys as them, right?
***
I was eating my food when I heard my name. Stopping mid chew, I looked up.
"Good girl," said one of the nurses. "We need you, this evening!"
I tilted my head at her, listening. She sounded like she was serious as she talked.
"There is a girl in need of your attention, girl!" She explained.
I made a noise of concern. I was worried. The nurse petting my head.
"Come on," she said, putting my uniform on.
Right, Button! Act pawfessional. I got excited and circled the nurse, my tail wagging. The nurse giggled.
"Let's go!" She said opening the door.
I followed her down one of the long stay corridors, sniffling round. I don't like this way.
***
When I got to the room with the nurse, there was a red head man there. He looked so kind. He put out his hand for me to sniff.
"Hey, girl!" He said in a gentle voice.
The nurse went over to the bed where a girl lay. She looked so different to people I usually visit. She had blond hair and blue eyes. But the sent that hit my nose as I made my way to her was of bandages. What happened to this girl?
"This is Button!" Said the nurse to the man and girl.
"She looks so cute!" Said the girl, trying to reach out to me. "Come, Button?"
I trotted forward and put my front paws on the bed. The girl managed to put her arm round me. I looked into her eyes. I wished I could talk. I whimpered and nuzzled her gently.
"Aww, Elsa!" Said the man. "She likes you!"
I wagged my tail in agreement. I did like her. I even like her name.
"She is so cute," said Elsa again. "You look lost, girl!"
"We found her as a stray!" Said the Nurse. "She was only about five months at the time?"
The man came over and gave me ear rubs. I liked him a lot. I had a kind of connection that I couldn't explain as I continued to stare at Elsa. The girl has too many secrets.
"David," said Elsa. "Is there a toy?"
The man nodded. Then the nurse brought out my favourite husky baby toy. She handed it to Elsa who squeaked it.
"Aww," said David as I got excited. "Button wants to play!"
I certainly did. Elsa giggled and put the toy new my nose. I gently took it from her.
"She is so gentle," she remarked. "Bless her!"
I couldn't help but give a silly grin. I am gentle, Elsa!
