{CHAPTER FIVE ,
— ❝ solo ❞ }"LOOK, IT'S GOOD THAT YOU GOT INVITED AND ALL," Maliah was talking to May as they walked into school. "But, don't you think it's stupid to go on a boat in the middle of the water? Like, River is defiantly the type of guy to throw you in as a joke." She said.
May shrugged in agreement, "I know but," She paused, "I want to be on the inside. I love Lewis but he's not good at the whole double-agent thing."
"Yeah but, he's not a mermaid." Maliah sung. She yelped as Malakai wrapped his arms around her shoulders. "Will you stop sneaking up on me!"
"It's fun." He shrugged, letting go of her and standing infront of the girls. May turned around to see River with a cheeky smile.
She turned around fully, "Absolutely not, River."
"It's an upgrade from lake." He smiles, standing next to Kai. They looked down at the girls excitedly.
Maliah shot them a weird look, glancing at May. "They're about to tell us something we're not supposed to know." She said. Kai's jaw dropped,
"How the hell did you know!"
May rolled her eyes. "It's written all over your faces, dumbasses."
River scoffed, "Okay, whatever." He played it off, looking at Kai. "Wait, are you telling them or am I?" He questioned.
Kai hummed, "You're the one who got the information." He shrugged.
"Yeah, but you're the one who wanted to tell them." River nodded towards the girls.
"If you don't say what you want to say, we're walking." May threatened, bored with the conversation.
River sighed, "Fine." He started. "Okay, you know how i was on the boat with Dr. Denman, studying Mako?" May nodded, as well as Maliah. He noticed this, "You told her?"
"Of course she did, i know everything." Maliah absentmindedly told him.
Kai smiled, nudging River and pointing to them, "They're just like us."
River ignored him, continuing. "Anyway, we were anchored next to Mako, and Dr. Denman set up cameras. You'll never guess what we saw." He said enthusiastically.
May gave him a bored look. "Squid? Polution? Weird looking fish?" She said sassily.
"Don't be mean." Maliah hit her, looking at the guys. "What?"
"Well," Kai looked at her. "We saw.. . Mermaids." He whispered the last part.
Maliah laughed, caught off guard. "W—what?"
River nodded, "We know it sounds fake, but Denman put cameras all around Mako and there's a video of three mermaids swiming into this, like, cave pool." He looked at May. "We're telling you because we noticed how you said 'Yemanya', a lot."
"And we found out it meant the mermaid goddess." Kai continued.
May laughed, "You know it's probably like photoshopped, or something?" She looked at them both. "They're fake, you know?"
"Not according to the video." Kai protested.
"Okay," Maliah trailed off, glancing at May. "As fun as this conversations been, we have to get to class." She told them slowly. "I'll talk to you later." She nodded, walking off with May following.
River sighed. "They totally think we're freaks."
"Yep."
