— ❝ skyline to ❞ }"IF YOU GUYS WANNA GO GET RID OF EVERYTHING THAT'S SPECIAL ABOUT YOU, FINE." May said, glaring as she threw her arms around exasperatedly. "But Maliah and I happen to like being mermaids."
"Even at the risk of becoming a circus animal?" Rikki asked, "It's for our safety."
Cleo nodded, agreeing with her. "It's the only way."
"Look, I respect your guys' decision," Maliah glanced at May. "But I don't even think they know about May and I." She shrugged lightly.
Lewis looked at them, "What about River and Kai?" He questioned. "They know now, right?"
"Yeah, what if they go around telling everyone?" Emma suggested.
"I don't think they will." Maliah told them. "I mean, you guys' trusted Lewis, right?"
Rikki shook her head. "We didn't tell Lewis. He happened to be there at the wrong time."
"Yeah, well, we didn't tell River or Kai." May stated passive aggressively. "They happened to be there at the wrong time."

May ran up to River, an excited smile on her face. He turned to her, a confused look on his face. "Why do you look like that?"
She frowned, "Like what?"
"Excited." He paused, "You never look excited to see me." He shook his head.
She huffed, looking around and pulled him slightly away from the group he was standing with. "I've never had a boy know my big secret." She grinned. "This is exciting." She claimed. "And I want to show you something." She whispered dramatically.
He hummed, "Hm, take me away, lady mermaid." He teased, allowing her to pull him around to a quiet corner near the school. She pulled out a joint and he gave her an unimpressed look, "You rolled a joint. That's it? Really?"
She scoffed, pushing him away. "Watch." She demanded. She brought the joint to her lips. She looked up at him, holding her palm upwards. She then ignited her fire in her palm, bringing it to the joint and lighting it.
His jaw dropped, "No. Fucking. Way." He laughed in disbelief, a hand coming up to cover his mouth. "May, you're so hot."
She rolled her eyes, shoving the joint into his hand. "I have to tell you something." She spoke seriously.
He inhaled the joint, humming. "What? If you're gonna say you're in love with me, i already know."
"Seriously, River." She stated. She sighed before continuing. "Maliah and I are leaving."
He went silent, taking the joint from his mouth. "What do you mean, leaving?" He scoffed, "You can't just leave."
She shook her head, "We never stay in one place for once. And after all this drama that happened with Dr. nobody and whatever, we have more reason to go." She explained. "It's too dangerous for us to stay here."
"What about school?" He stood up straight, "What about Mako and the girls? What's Maliah gonna do about Kai?" He asked her, "What about me?"
She bit her lip in thought. "I'm sorry, River." She looked around her. "Look, I'll talk to you later, okay?"

"Have you told Kai?" May asked Maliah. They sat on their couch in the living room, eating a bunch of snacks that they had stacked on their coffee table. "'Cause I mean I tried to tell River, but he was just in like, denial, or something. I don't know." She shrugged.
