8:45 AM.
I shrieked as I ran to the washroom and saw it was locked. Damn!
"Rishita is inside." Swetha notified me as I saw her combing her hair gently, dressed neatly in a yellow kurti and off white palazzo pants.
"I've been trying to awake you both from 6:00 AM. Both of you kept saying, two minutes more. Now, see the clock and repent." She walked past me as I knocked on the door relentlessly.
"Coming." Rishita shouted from inside.
"Come out this instant, you woman. It's 8:50 AM already." I shouted, trying to knock again as the door opened.
I've no idea how I completed my daily chores in just two minutes and ran out to get ready for the conference, throwing my used clothes in the laundry box.
By the time, we both reached, we saw Swetha standing outside the auditorium with two white cups in her hands.
"Hurry up. The food in the canteen ran out. So, I brought these two cups of corn salad for you two. Eat it in between." We hugged her saying 'thank you' as we three ran into the auditorium at 9:03 AM.
"You are late, guys." We heard as we entered. It was Dr. Sharman Jaiswal, our assistant HOD.
"Sorry sir, please excuse us." We requested, knowing he was a kind soul.
"Just this time." He stated and handed us three cards to clip on our identity cards as we proceeded for the conference and took our seats quietly.
The Introduction carried on as the Dean spoke followed by our HODs. Thereby, we were said to write our names and the club we wish to join in a chit and drop it in a box. We did it.
There was a little felicitation session of some of the alumni, who were a recipient of a prestigious award and included in the Royal Science Society.
By this time, it was already 12:00 PM.
"Since, we are running out of time today, we will be discussing the noble non-profit services of IISU tomorrow with the researchers, selected by the IISU commitee." The dean spoke.
"Now, coming to the important announcement. It's a proud moment for us. On August 3rd, which is four months from now, our dear institution IISU is going to celebrate its 85th foundation anniversary. Hence, we are planning to contest in the world's largest sci-fest, Royal Science Exhibition with an innovative project after almost thirty five years. Let's prove this world again, why IISU has been standing as one of the best research institute of Asia." He continued with a smile of pride and determination, which indeed spurred hope in our hearts to contribute our talents for the sake of this supreme institute.
"IISU has always admired talents and brilliant brains. Hence, this contest would be no different. I announce hereby, a team of super sixty will be carved out of all of you genius minds and I give the responsibility of the team leadership and accumulation based on your past achievements and experiences to Sidharth Singh, President of Students Union. Hopefully, all the selected members will receive an email within five days."
"Sidharth, come over the stage." Dr. Aswin Yadav called out as a well-built man strode out as walked through the crowd of students and then, ascended the stage.
The dean hugged him as he playfully asked him, "You've been the most loved President for over three years now and after this opportunity, how do you feel?"
"Absolutely humbled, sir. I assure you, I will strive to do my best." I heard a dense masculine voice, which had such an authoritative yet kind aura.
"That's like my boy. Now, do share something for the freshers. It's their day today." The Dean chuckled as the latter joined in along with everyone in the auditorium.
