Chapter Thirty-Six: Birds Eye View

Hanji recounted a conversation she had with Eren, she shared with us Eren's recollection of something overheard from Bertholdt during the events surrounding Eren's kidnapping by Reiner and him.

"Bertholdt said he believed Ymir didn't mean to eat anyone. This means we can speculate that Ymir used to be a mindless Titan just like the others until she consumed someone. Someone from Bertholdt and Reiners group." Quiet and collective gasps rippled through the room as Hanji unveiled her theories.

"We've never seen a Titan turn back into a human by eating one before. That said, Reiner's comrades aren't normal humans and there's a different set of rules for humans that can turn into Titans. My thought is this: if a Titan eats someone with that power, then it'll turn back into a human."

"So they'll obtain whatever power that titan shifter had?" I questioned.

"Precisely. Which is why I believe when Reiner was throwing Titans at Eren during the battle the other day, he hoped one of those titans would eat Eren and take his power." Hanji furrowed her brow. "My point is, if the government has a Titan of their own, they'll use it to eat Eren."

Mikasa wasted no time upon hearing this revelation, her movements swift and determined as she sprang from the corner where she stood, making a beeline for the door with fiery urgency. Levi reacted swiftly, seizing her arm firmly and urging her to calm down. "I know you want to get Eren back, but going on a rampage won't help with that," He said sternly.

"I guess that means we're heading for Rod Reiss' estate." I said. "Let's get ready to leave as soon as possible."

Squad Levi rose in unison, their resolve evident as they filed out of the room, leaving me behind with Hanji and Levi.

"I'll tell Erwin everything we know about the Reiss family. I'm sure he's waiting to hear from us." She said.

Unable to contain my concern any longer, I turned to Hanji. "How is he doing? The commander?" I asked, my voice tinged with worry.

Hanji's gaze softened, a hint of warmth softening her determined expression. "You know Erwin. He's holding up just fine," she reassured me, her voice gentle. "He's been asking about you too, you know."

I let out a sigh of relief, glad to hear that despite his predicament, Erwin was okay. "Tell him I say hi then," I said with a small smile.

Levi looked at me, not saying anything.

"I promise I will. In the mean time, you guys will head to the Reiss estate and I'll find you when I can."

Erwins POV

"Commander Erwin, sir!" Hanji burst through the door, stepping into the room where Commander Pixis and I were seated.

She wasted no time making her way to me and whispering in my ear about their findings. "The Reiss family is the true royal family." Her breath was warm against my ear, as she confirmed the theory I had silently harbored.

"I thought so." Despite my eagerness to unveil my plans to Commander Pixis about a coup and my idea to overthrow the current government, my thoughts drifted elsewhere. Y/n occupied my mind incessantly. I wondered how she had reacted upon learning I was taken here, and whether she was holding up alright amidst the chaos.

"Hanji, how is squad Levi doing?" I asked.

Hanji seemed taken aback that my first question after hearing her discovery wasn't about her discovery. "They had a run-in with some men working for Rod Reiss. Those bastards managed to take out three of my squad in the ambush," she replied, her voice tinged with frustration.
