“What happened to my Jan?” Ramin muttered under his breath, his heart racing. Without wasting a second, he sprinted to her room, his hand trembling slightly as he twisted the doorknob. To his surprise, there was no emergency, no distress—only Janan, snugly wrapped in a blanket, sitting on the bed with Bella and Zahra. The three of them were engrossed in a horror movie. Ramin’s wide eyes landed on Janan, disbelief flashing across his face, while she glanced up at him innocently."Do you have any idea how much I got scared?" he scolded, a faint tremor in his voice.
Janan, with an exaggerated pout, pointed towards Bella and Zahra. "They forced me to watch it!" she defended herself playfully.
Ramin sighed, his concern giving way to relief. "But why did you scream, love?"
Janan bit her lower lip, looking slightly sheepish. "I got scared of that ghost..." she confessed, her voice soft, almost childlike.
Ramin couldn’t help but chuckle at her adorable confession. "Don't worry, your Ramin will take on anyone or anything that dares to scare you," he promised, his voice laced with warmth and affection.
Zahra and Bella exchanged mischievous glances, making exaggerated “Oooh” sounds in unison, clearly enjoying the couple’s banter.
Janan, still swathed in the blanket like a cocoon, rose from the bed and walked over to Ramin, her face serious. "Are you done now?" she asked in a mock-stern tone. "Then go."
Feigning hurt, Ramin placed his hand over his heart dramatically. "Ah, it hurts," he teased, his lips twitching with a smile.
Janan glared at him in response, unamused. Ramin persisted. "I’ll go... but only if you say goodnight properly."
Her expression shifted to one of annoyance as she sighed deeply. “Goodnight, Raminah," she muttered with exasperation.
He smiled, clearly pleased. "Goodnight, my baby," he said tenderly, his voice like velvet.
Janan swallowed hard, her heart skipping a beat as she quickly averted her eyes. A blush crept up her cheeks, and Ramin, catching her reaction, left with a satisfied grin.
As the door clicked shut, Janan slumped back onto the mattress, wrapping herself tighter in the blanket. She smiled to herself, thoughts swirling in her head. "How do you always manage to give me butterflies, Ramin?" she wondered, letting out a quiet chuckle.
Zahra and Bella exchanged knowing looks before Zahra broke the silence with a playful remark. "Bella, look! Janan’s face is red. I think she has a fever," she teased, barely able to contain her laughter.
Bella played along, placing her hand on Janan’s forehead. "Strange... she feels cold," she added, her voice laced with amusement.
Janan rolled her eyes, catching on to their teasing. “I know what you both are trying to do,” she said with a laugh.
The room filled with their shared laughter before Zahra’s tone softened. "Stay happy like this, my love," she said, her eyes warm.
The next morning, Janan was in the kitchen preparing breakfast. The faint sound of the juicer hummed as she poured fresh juice into a glass. She was deep in thought when Ramin entered the kitchen, his presence pulling her from her musings. Their eyes met for a moment, but Janan quickly averted her gaze, feeling a familiar heat rising in her cheeks. Ramin chuckled softly at her reaction and made his way over to her.
"Jan, I’m heading out," he informed her.
Janan bit her lip, her chest tightening as she watched him prepare to leave. "Wah, David Ramin, I woke up early just to make breakfast for you, and now you’re leaving?" she thought to herself, frustration bubbling inside her. But outwardly, she remained silent, letting out a small sigh instead.
