ANYA
"Remember, the school will be closed this afternoon for the Imperial Scholars affair. So unless you have a reason to be here, please leave the school grounds promptly."
I arrived at my locker at the end of the last period with Becky. She was always so cheerful.
"It's a good thing, though," She suddenly said.
"What is?" I asked, pulling my books from my locker. They fell out.
"That we get half a day off. That means we can go hang out and stuff!"
There was a loud racket nearby.
Naturally, my eyes followed the sound and found Sy-on Boy and his friends standing around, talking about stuff. Two girls approached them, their eyes had hearts in them.
"Oooh, is your dad gonna be there, Damian?" One of the girls asked.
"Your brother is an Imperial Scholar, right?" The other questioned.
There was a long pause and he just stared at them. But when he decided he didn't want to respond to them, he just strolled off. Rude. That was the weird thing about Sy-on, though. Most of the time, it was easy to read his mind, since his face always showed his true emotions. He wasn't particularly good with the poker face. Unless he was feeling down, which I think he was.
"Um, did you hear me?" Becky's voice broke my thoughts. "Why are you staring at Damian?"
I always knew what he was thinking about. I didn't need my telepathy to know he was thinking about his dad. I knew it all too well. Maybe if he was nicer to me most of the time, I would've just gone away without reading his mind. But I had to complete Papa's mission too.
In a flashback from Sy-on's mind, I saw him having a phone call:
"Hi-hi, Demetrius."
"What do you want?"
"About tomorrow, you're going to that Imperial Scholars mixer, right?"
"Of course."
"Can you deliver a message to Father for me? Tell him I was hoping I could see him afterward, even if it's just for a little bit, and I'll be waiting for him in the courtyard of Library 2."
"......I'll tell him. But I'm just saying, don't get your hopes up. He's always busy."
"I know."
Sy-on Boy slammed his locker door shut and I blinked. That was scary. As I left, I couldn't help but study him. His father never left his mind. Never.
"Hey, can I say hi to your dad later?" A girl pushed past the other girls.
"My daddy is coming to pick me up today, and he wants to say hi too! If you don't mind, can you introduce him to my daddy?"
People were always trying to get close for all the wrong reasons. "Leave me alone," Sy-on Boy said, his face was dark with anger that sent a chill through the air. And things were never going to change. He stomped off, and his friends chased after him. Dramatic.
"Sy-on Boy is going to see his Evil Super Boss Dad?" I mumbled.
"Hey, do you want to do more shopping this afternoon? We have the day off!" Becky asked.
"Hold on a second, Becky. I'll be right back."
I couldn't win Sy-on Boy's heart with fashion, even though Becky tried her hardest to make me look pretty. So the only solution now was to follow him and face his dad head-on.
