9. Grumpy x Sunshine

Rohit stared at the 20 year old boy who had just joined their team. He cheeks was slightly chubby and overall he had that cute face. But looking at him he can sense that he has a sassy attitude.

He was already being friends with others in the team, he was behaving very friendly with his Yuvi pa, Sonu Bhai and most importantly his mahi bhai was also being more friendly to him.

Do they already forgot I exist for them? Thought Rohit.

"Ah, Rohit come here. Meet Virat he is new in the team and he has joined 5 days back. You didn't meet him that's why I'm introducing him now" Mahi said to Rohit who had just came to their hotel as he joined team little late.

Rohit had already saw and heard about Virat from IPL, although apart from great knocks Virat was known for his aggressive and sassy nature.

"Hi Virat Kohli here" Vi said forwarding his hand.

"Um hi Rohit sharma"

"Yeah I know you" Virat said giving Rohit his cheeky smile to which Rohit returned a nervous smile.

"Shaana, ab tera youngest in team wala spot chala Gaya hai" Yuvi teased him from behind.

Rohit frowned he clearly was not liking the attention Virat was getting from everyone.

That was his place and this kid who had not even joined 5 days back had already done magic on them.

"Ugh.. mahi bhai room number kya hai.. me thak gaya hu already travelling se" Rohit asked as he took his bag.

"Ro.. actually Mere room me Cheeku hai. You can take another room" Mahi said scratching his neck.

"Cheeku ye kon bachha hai ab?"

"Me hu.. mahi bhai mujhe cheeku bulate hai pyaar se" Virat grinned showing him his all teeth

"Are cheeku.. I mean Virat share kar raha hai room mere sath" Mahi said clearing Rohit's confusion.

"What! Aur aapne mere baare me nahi socha? Aaj tak mere sath he room share karte ho aap.. aur itne easily iss keechu ko dediya room?" Rohit pointed out.

"Keechu nahi Cheeku aur mene he bola mahi bhai ko room share karne, he told me ki tum rehte ho unke sath par mne socha tum nahi aaye the isliye" Virat said giving Rohit his puppy eyes.

"Look kid! Keechu or cheeku whatever, pack your bags and leave that room. Ab aagya na me! That is my place go now" Rohit said somewhat rudely.

"Kyu naam likha hai tumhara woh room ke wall pe? Me nahi leave karunga woh room. Mujhe mahi bhai ke sath rehna hai"

"You don't fight me or I'll..." Rohit was about to argue.

"Virat.. Ro both of you stop it. Aur Rohit ye koi tareeka hai youngsters se baat karne ka? And Virat respect your seniors. Rahi baat room ki, Ro adjust in some other room wese bhi kuch din ka sawal hai then we will go to other location for match." MS said in tone which no one can argue further.

Rohit went from there not before giving Virat a look.

"I don't like that new kid Sonu Bhai" Rohit whined for the nth time.

Sonu just laughed at him.

"Aree kya kardiya usne, tum dosti karlo usse bohot mast ladka hai woh"

"Oh wow. Ab aap bhi uske team me ho just great. Mahi bhai toh uske team me the he! Kya nickname Diya usko? Cheeku.. mujhe toh kabhi aisa kuch nahi bola" Rohit complained.

They were talking untill they were called by their coach for the practice session.

During the whole session Msd and some other players was with cheeku appreciating him and giving him tips to improve the batting which irked Rohit.

"Why does he always get the attention?" Rohit muttered under his breath, his irritation evident.

"What's that, Ro?" Yuvi asked, coming up beside him.

"Nothing," Rohit replied, forcing a smile.

Later, in the locker room, Rohit's frustration bubbled over. He slammed his locker shut, the noise echoing through the room. Virat, who was sitting nearby, looked up, raising an eyebrow.

Everything okay, Rohit?" Virat asked, his tone casual but curious.

"Yeah, fine," Rohit snapped. "Why wouldn't it be.?"

"Tumhare hote hue sab acha he hota hai " Rohit muttered under his breath and went away from there.

Virat didn't remember exactly when his feelings for Rohit had begun. Or when he started to feel for Rohit.

Maybe it had been during the long bus rides when the team traveled together. Virat seated behind Rohit, would find himself stealing glances at him, watching the way he gazed out the window.

Or when Rohit laughs or jokes with other team mates, Virat gets jealous as he too wanted to be in their place. But Rohit always gave him a cold shoulder.

Every time he had a chance, he'd try to start a conversation, offering compliments, sharing bits about the game, and just trying to make Rohit laugh. But Rohit's, almost cold demeanor made it difficult for him.

One evening, during a practice match, the pressure was on, and Rohit was feeling the weight of everyone's expectations. It was very important match for team and they had to win it.

It was breaks and Virat as usual was joking and laughing about other teammates. Which was making Rohit angry, he was irritated and now Vi was making it worse.

Virat! For once, stop acting like this is a playground," Rohit hissed, his tone cold and sharp.

"Do you think cricket is just about showing off and laughing around? You need to take it seriously! You're in the big leagues now; this isn't some under-19 match. Act like it."

"Mahi Bhai toh tujhe kuch bolenge nahi pr kisiko ye baat batani zaruri hai, You are irritating me from day one pr me chup tha but now it's getting too much. So please stop with your nonsense and let me play " Rohit said

Virat face fell, and his lips trembled as he fought back tears. He hadn't meant to annoy Rohit-he just wanted to make him happy.

"Rohit! Stop it! Kya bol rha hai tu? Bachha hai woh aur kab irritate Kiya usne. Thoda hasi mazak he kar rha hai" MS said interfering between them.

"I'm sorry Rohit. Aage se dhyan rakhunga I'll not disturb you. Sorry.."
Virat whispered .

Rohit turned away, his frustration too blinding to notice the hurt he had caused. Virat didn't say another word. He quietly picked up his bat and left the nets, his head hanging low, tears finally spilling over as he hurried to the far corner of the ground, away from everyone's eyes.

"Cheeku.. " MSD tried to stop Virat but he went from there hurt by Rohit words.
