Your phone buzzed repeatedly, but you ignored it, focusing on getting to your destination. Today, you opted for a change in scenery so you took a walk to the library. Taking your college card, you scanned yourself in and made your way downstairs to the open study area. Considering most courses had ended by now, there were only a few people dotted around. Sitting down, you unloaded your laptop and notepad. Your phone buzzed violently again, and you felt frustrated before blocking her.

'She can't expect me to actually be at her beck and call, right?'

Your mom had been calling you non-stop. Granted, it was for a good reason, but you still weren't happy about it. Finally having some peace, you focused on work. If you failed and had to repeat the year, you'd never get rid of your parents. They were paying your college fees, so you couldn't just disappear. But once you graduated, you could just vanish, and it would take them a few months to find you at least.

An hour passed before you decided to take a break. Going to the vending machine out in the hallway, you noticed the familiar black hair through the clouded windows. It reminded you of Arthur. Getting your drink from the vending machine, you walked back to your seat, taking a good look at him. It was him!

Arthur sat there, his black hair slightly tousled, a pensive expression on his face as he seemed lost in thought looking at his laptop. His features were sharp, with a defined jawline and intense dark eyes that contrasted with his pale skin. He wore a casual outfit, yet his presence was anything but ordinary. His slightly tousled hair and the piercing gaze he had when he wasn’t scowling made him stand out.

Suddenly, he looked at you. Jumping in your seat, you looked away immediately, embarrassed.

'Fuck, he probably thinks I'm some creep now.' You wanted to hit yourself, but you kept your eyes locked on your laptop, trying to calm your beating heart. Eventually, you got the courage to look up again, and he was right there in front of you, with a smile on his face.

'I'm screwed.'

"Hey, I'm sorry, we're in the same class, right?" he asked, laptop in hand. "Is it cool if I study with you? I'm struggling to concentrate alone."

You felt relieved he didn't mention your staring.

"Yeah, that's cool," you said quickly, moving your things a bit so he could sit across from you.

"Thanks," he said, settling down. This was the closest you had been to him. You'd been in the same class for four years and you had never even remembered he existed till yesterday, and now here he was in front of you.

'Are those piercings?' The way Marcia talked about him made him sound like a nerd. What kind of nerds had piercings? 'What, does he have a secret life as a gang leader?' you asked yourself, genuinely curious. You diverted your gaze as you became aware you were staring again.

Arthur's presence was anything but comfortable, but it was too late to back out, you had already said he could sit here. You tried to focus on your work. The clicking of laptop keys filled the silence easily and eventually you fell into the the rhythm of things and started studying again.

Bzzt. Bzzt.

Your phone buzzed again, you turned it over to see an incoming text from an unknown number, you rolled your eyes thinking it was your mum. You looked at Arthur and he was still working on his laptop. Sighing to yourself you unlocked your phone and opened the message.

[You look really pretty today.]

Your muscles tensed, a new message from an unknown number. You looked around immediately, but the only people here were studying, you didn't know who was messaging you and you couldn't make a scene either. You looked out the window and there was no one there.
