You stood in your father’s exclusive shooting range, the distinct smell of gunpowder hanging in the air. The sound of bullets hitting their targets echoed through the vast space. You adjusted your stance, feeling the weight of the gun in your hands. Your father watched you closely, his eyes never missing a detail.
“Good,” he said, nodding approvingly as you hit the center of the target again. “You’ve improved.”
“Thanks.” you replied, lowering the gun and taking off your ear protection. “I’ve had a good teacher.”
Your father smiled, a rare expression for him. “I was worried you'd lose it all in college but I'm impressed."
He was still salty you chose to study over the family bussiness. Well, you didn't care what he wanted.
In your family, being prepared wasn’t just about self-defense; it was about survival. Your father wasn’t just a businessman; and so you had been kidnapped quite a few times growing up, occasionally someone did try but you got yourself out easily.
Once the session was done, you and your father decided to get something to eat upstairs. This was a club only available to those in his circle, quite a few shady deals happened her, and most people didn't know about it.
As you walked upstairs you spotted him, Jeremy.
He stood there, casually leaning against the wall, a black band tattoo peeking out from the collar of his shirt, wrapping around his neck.
Seeing the tattoo made you stare at him curiosly, didn't he insist on wearing makeup to cover it up? What changed?
"Good afternoon Sir." Jeremy greeted your dad who nodded in response.
"I'll be upstairs if you need me." He said before leaving.
“Hey,” he greeted, acting as if nothing had happened previously between you. “It’s been a while.”
By a while he meant a week, Arthur had gone to visit his family so it was just you.
"What do you want?" You asked curtly, you weren't in the mood to entertain whatever bullshit he was about to spout.
He smiled, a hint of tenderness in his eyes. “I just came to talk, I just wanted to tell you I broke it off with her.”
By her you assumed he was referring to the green eyed woman he left you for.
How funny.
"I love how you casually abandon women when you see fit."
"Come on, you knew it was just a fling, ultimately you are the one destined for me, even if I have a mistress hidden you are the one standing on my side."
What logic was that?
"You keep talking about cheating blatantly to my face, aren't you afraid I'll slap you?"
A normal person would be afraid, especially since you had a habit of slapping people. But Jeremy knew you, and you knew him well enough to know he wouldn't be afraid.
"Then, would you like to slap me? [First name]?"
Jeremy was genuinely a beautiful man, it was one of the reasons you picked him. He knew all the right things to say and was always honest. You wouldn't have minded marrying him if he didn't forget your existence whenever one of his little girlfriends showed up.
He clearly wasn't made for polygamy so why force it?
"If it will make you feel good then slap me [First Name]." He raised your hand to his face and nuzzled it like a dog with no owner.
