Mhercee, Paz, Requim and I stood there in the field, starring at each other. So, we were all after the stone, were we? I wondered how this would go down. I glanced at Mhercee, anticipating she would make the first move. But moments passed in silence and no one did anything. Didn't they know that only one person can have immortality? Only ONE can use the stone. I expected her to draw one of her weapons and start picking off her competition. That would be the smart thing to do. But perhaps she doesn't think we're competition at all, or maybe she doesn't know the legend that well.

I sighed, I guess I would have to break the silence. I had already started strategising and I had come up with a pitch.

"Well, if we're all going after the stone we might as well work together on it. It's going to be hard and the more people we have the more strengths we have to work with. I'm sure there will be things along the way that each one of us cant handle, but together we could get past them. I mean think about it. Maybe that's why nobody's ever found the stone before. They've all gone after it alone" I looked around at all their intrigued faces. They were actually considering it. I thanked the heavens for my political background. I've had years of listening to my parent's speeches. I have certainly mastered the art of persuasion.

The truth was, I wanted help. I knew from the start it would be near impossible to go after the stone by myself. I was young and weak. I couldn't fight off an opponent if I had to, but I bet Mhercee could. I didn't really think they needed me, but I definitely needed them. I just had to make sure I was the one who got the stone in the end.

"That's sweet, but I'll pass" a sarcastic voice broke the silence. It was Paz. "I don't need a kid slowing me down. No offence," she said.

I hoped her statement didn't taint the others opinions. I watched as Mhercee stepped forward to speak.

"You can work with us kiddo," she said sweetly.

She was probably sure she could beat me to the stone in the end. But I was glad she agreed all the same. I stepped closer to her.

"Don't you guys know that only one of us can be immortal" said Paz.

Damn it. It was all on the table now. But Mhercee and Requim didn't seem surprised.

"We'll all be better off if we work together" Requim chimed in. He was being the peace keeper, which made sense. he did have ties to both of the girls.

"So you're on her side?" Paz asked, sounding a little pissed off.

"If we're not working together then what? It's just some big race to the next clue," said Requim.

I smiled. I liked Reqy. He understood my logic.

"I'll beat you there any day," said Paz indignantly.

She turned and started running the other way, back across the field.

Mhercee cracked up and started laughing hysterically, "You don't even know where you're going!" she shouted.

Paz stopped dead in her tracks. She turned around slowly, frustrated. She cursed lowdly.

"She has the clue!" shouted Mhercee, gesturing a hand towards me.

I looked down at the silver pendant that hung around my neck and realized that I had the upper hand. I held the clue that they were all after. It was what they all needed. And better yet, it was silver which meant that the daemons couldn't touch it.

I grinned.

In a flash Paz was back. "Alright, what's it say," she sighed.

"Work with us Paz." I demanded.
