Note: I absolutely adored writing this chapter I can't lie...
We had learnt of Nagel's location at the Port of Madripoor, and at the breakfast table we discussed how we were going to play it out until Sharon came into the room with folded arms. "Well James, it looks like we're going to have to burn your sheets. (y/n), why do you think that is?" She turned on me and I choked on my croissant. "Water?"
"I think so," I quickly left the breakfast table and headed to the kitchen, feeling the intense heat in my cheeks. I tried to recompose myself, setting my mind to the mission at hand and when I returned we were ready to go. Sharon had managed to find out that Dr Nagel's laboratory was hidden inside one of the crates in the Port of Madripoor, and she'd even managed to get a crate number so the five of us went to gather intel. We had decided to take guns with us this time as well as we still had a bounty on our heads.
As we wandered through the crates I kept a close eye on Sharon, still not trusting her completely. "He's in there, container two-four-six-one," she gestured a red container nearby, others surrounding it making it look as big as a building. "I'll keep an eye out while you guys talk to Nagel. Here," she held out earpieces and we took one each. Sam opened up the crate and we stepped in, it being eerily empty. I slowly walked to the end, there being something odd about the far wall of the container.
With a push the back opened, revealing a set of stairs. I held my gun tightly, leading the way up the stairs into a laboratory filled with vials, gas tanks, glass cubicles and hazmat suits. The crates stacked upon the entryway must be a disguise for the laboratory due to the fact it was quite big. Music was playing loudly but we kept on high alert, Sam walking ahead and turning the music off.
"Who are you, what do you want?" A voice I vaguely recognised said. It sent chills down my spine so I went to investigate, going to Sam to see who he was talking to, and who he had his gun cocked at but I could never have prepared myself for who I saw. The man had aged, his beard bushier, his hair turning white. He had more wrinkles on his face and wore different glasses but it was unmistakable: the man sitting on the stool in front of me was Dr Beckett, head of DOSE. "Ah, hello (y/n), it's been a while."
I stormed up to him and pressed my gun directly at his forehead, startling Sam. "Shut up before I blow your brains out," I growled, a whole range of emotions hitting me at once. Fear, anger, upset. Tears were forming in my eyes, my teeth were gritted as I looked at the man with disgust but he didn't even flinch.
"Whoa, whoa Goldie, calm down," Sam said carefully but I wasn't listening. He knew I had been experimented on as a child and that was how I had gotten these powers, but he didn't know the precise details unlike Bucky. "(y/n)..."
"I was wondering how long it would be before I saw you again. I admittedly thought it would be sooner..." Dr Beckett didn't take his eyes off of me.
"(y/n) chill out," Sam said sternly as my hands began to tremble.
"What's going on?" Bucky approached us, his movements freezing when he saw the situation.
"You killed them," I whispered, my voice wavering. "We were only children... you killed them!"
"They were too weak... but you... you were perfect. My perfect creation," he said fondly, my lip trembling.
"It was you?" Bucky muttered behind me, anger laced in his tone.
"They were children!" I spat angrily. "We were just children-,"
"Would someone please tell me what the hell is going on?! Are you Doctor Nagal or not?" Sam blurted out and I finally lowered my gun, Beckett sighing in relief.
