~An imitation of Mother to Son by Langston Hughes

My dearest friend, let me tell you;

Life is a long, long book.

It has pages torn out

And yellow stains

And long paragraphs

Monsters lurk in every corner, all you must do is...

Look

But still,

I've been flipping the page

And being the hero of my story

And meeting other characters

And jumping, taking daring leaps,

where chunks are missing

So, my dearest friend, don't be discouraged

Your book is unfinished

Be excited, and learn to see the possibilities

Don't back down already

For I'm being my hero,

I'm flipping my pages

And my life has already been a long, long book
