"Of course, I'm alive, now get out of my way."

You couldn't stop smiling as you turned around excitedly towards the other two, but then your face fell when you noticed the body was still on the table and – how did he get outside so quick?

"Loki!" Thor cheered, grabbing his brother in a long-awaited hug, and you shrugged guiltily at Natasha who just crossed her arms, looking completely pissed.

"Really thought I would attempt to kill him with a knife?" Loki asked with a cocked eyebrow, getting out of the hug, "Try using your brain, brother, I'm not an idiot."

"So, what's the thing on my table then?" You couldn't help but to ask and the trickster glanced back at you curiously, realizing why he knew you, snapping his fingers before the body fizzled, disappearing completely.

"Merely a trick."

"Faked your death again," Natasha groaned in annoyance, looking like she wanted to kill him, "What a surprise."

"Shit," You peered over at her in realization, "You're gonna be late, yeah?"

"I'm not leaving until I know you're safe." She told you bluntly and you melted at how she ghosted a hand over the gun strapped to her hip when the trickster stepped closer to you.

"We have things to discuss, and I would rather they not be present." He told you as if they couldn't hear him and you knew that wasn't going to happen now that your assassin had.

"I should shoot you." She growled at him and he smiled amusedly.

"I'd like to see that." He challenged back and she unclipped her holster before you put your hands up frantically to stop her.

"Brother, be kind." Thor offered weakly, not even trying to prevent the fight as Loki whipped out two knives.

"Nat," You scolded, and she looked to you in surprise, "I'll be fine, he can't hurt me, so-"

"Want to test that theory?" He cut in, but you ignored it.

"-you should go before they take off without you."

"Let them." She shrugged, pulling her gun out to aim it over your shoulder as you stood between them and he chuckled from behind you.

"Oh, this should be fun."

You quickly grabbed her gun and knocked it out of her grasp in a move she taught you, but you regretted it immediately when the look of betrayal crossed her features.

"I'm sorry," You rushed out in a panic when she shook her head with a deep breath, eyeing you wildly, and you went to grab her arm, but she pulled out of reach, going for her bag, "I'm sorry, Natasha, I didn't mean-"

"See you in a week, Y/n," She gritted out as she reached the door, not even sparing you a glance, let alone a kiss goodbye, "And good luck."

She slammed the door behind her, and you were left speechless, staring after her.

"I should..." You trailed off, gesturing for the door, and Thor put up his hand to stop you.

"I think she might say things she would regret if you did go after her now," He told you and Loki raised his eyebrows, muttering something about the ogre actually using his brain for once, "I've learned this from personal experience."

"But I won't see her for a week." You whined pathetically, torn between catching up to her and staying here to let her cool off.

"I want what's mine and I'm not leaving until I get it," Loki told you plainly, surveying the room with his eyes, "I know it's here, but I can't tell where exactly, so I'll just tear this place to the ground until I-"

"Alright, calm thine tits and your royally dramatic ass," You crossed your arms and he looked affronted, "You can't kill me, and I was going to revive you, so honestly, you're welcome, now," You pointed up at Thor, "I'm leaving to find my girlfriend and you need to keep your brother in line or so help me-"

"I'll make sure he doesn't get up to any tricks." He nodded firmly while Loki just rolled his eyes in annoyance.

"No shenanigans, tom foolery or-" You cut yourself off, shaking your head, and then pointed over at Loki with a glare, "If you so much as breathe on my dog," Ollie popped his head up from the couch as if you had said his name, "I will gut you like a fish and then make sushi, got it?"

"Fine." He reluctantly huffed and you nodded, shooing them away so you could get by.

You kissed Ollie goodbye and then rushed out the door, hailing a cab since you were lucky enough to catch an empty one riding by.

"What're you...an avenger or somethin'?" The driver asked with a chuckled when you gave him the address.

"Uh, no."

"Agent? Those guys always walk out in those suits, so I figured, no suit, must be an avenger."

Screw it.

"I'm dating one."

"Oh, no shit?" He peered through the rearview mirror with an impressed expression, nodding his head, and there was a certain way his eyes sparked, but you ignored it as he continued, "Must be that uh, that Captain America or somethin' cause I know Stark is married to some CEO big shot."

"Nah, the director, Nick Fury." You lied, finding this amusing.

"You're bustin' my balls now, I know you are!" He laughed hard, hitting a red light, and you smiled, thinking of your redhead.

"Yeah, I'm actually-"

He spun around in a quick second like he had been waiting for an excuse to stop the car, aiming a pistol at you, and you raised your eyebrows, then your hands.

"Wanna tell me the real reason I'm bringin' you to that cesspool?" He snapped, "I lost some good people to those cunts and if you're one of them, well, then I won't lose any sleep over this."
"Who'd you lose?" You asked calmly and he squinted, not sure he heard you right because he didn't expect such a response.

But you saw how shaky his hand was, how the gun was newly registered, the serial number wasn't filed down and even more importantly, how sweaty and agitated he had become in such a short time.

"My sister," He gritted out, loosening his grip ever so slightly, "And her husband lost his hearing along with the feeling in both his legs, so to say I'm pissed at those guys is an-"

"Understatement." You nodded, watching the cars angrily drive by when he refused to move when the light turned green and hearing the incessant honking.

"Yeah, so," He tilted the gun with a shrug, not bothered by any of it, "You understand why I might want a little revenge."

"More than you think," You nodded with a small smile and he looked at you in confusion, wondering why you weren't begging for your life yet, "But I can help you."

"Oh, yeah?" He scoffed, "How's that?"

"I can start with your brother-in-law," You explained, "I can heal him if you'll let me."

Catching up to Natasha wasn't at the top of your list of priorities anymore and even though you would regret not getting to her sooner, you knew you were still heavily needed in New York.

People were still hurting, still so filled with anger from the attacks, and yes, you had slipped, almost attempting to bring back an already living trickster who caused most of this, but you weren't about to give up on the reason you had wanted these powers in the first place.

"What're you talkin' about?" He spat, "You somethin' magic or – or somethin'?"

"Nope," You shook your head, letting out a sigh of relief when he lowered his gun, "Just someone who's trying to clean up the mess left behind."

So, instead of the tower, you actually headed deeper into Brooklyn, the opposite way you had initially wanted to go.

But at least the ride was free.
